82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

He’s obviously not a defender and is better suited to playing in and around the midfield but unfortunately it will always come back to his size. He’s just not big enough (height & strength) to play in midfield.

Lewis was the pro type with O’Reilly being v2…

As long as it's respectful, it's warranted. Honest little player with great attitude, not good enough for us sadly.
Agreed. Gives his all but his size/strength is just too much of a detriment that he doesn’t have enough talent to cover for.

Can't forget when Pep compare this lad with Phillip Lahm ffs
He showed lots of promise , even being a possible England regular.
Just hasn't progressed at all.
I'm presuming he will look for a new club where he might have a better chance of showing his potential.
McAtee and Bobb left and actually look worse now than when they were with us.

I think if the game hadn't moved on tactically in the last couple of years then Lewis would have been sound and more important than he is now.

Now teams going man to man in midfield is a lot more in vogue and it really doesn't suit him unfortunately. If every team still set up like 2022 or 2023 then he'd be fine.

That's the concern for them isnt it - the kids we have are 'created' to play in a Pep system, and if they aren't quite good enough then it feels like they may have to drop some distance to find another side that suits them.

I couldn't believe the drop off in the form of Zinchenko, Jesus and Sterling when they left.
All experienced players at the time and sold by us for fairly decent money.

I’m not disagreeing with your point but Sterling had pretty much been unpickable for 18 months when he left. He should never have been in the Chelsea CL final team.

Height and size wasn’t a problem for David Silva. He has a limited skill set probably that is more suited to the championship .

Can’t disagree with the many comments on here - Jekyll and Hyde performance showcasing what he does well and what he’s poor at.

Severely lacks pace and physicality which is needed at this level. Lacks defensive nous.

Shame but he’s not going to make it here.

Final day performance one of the worst I’ve seen from a city player in the last ten years. The laziness vs the counter was borderline unprofessional. Needs a move now to reignite the fire
That’s him every single game he plays. People say he has a great attitude, and that he works hard, but I see the opposite. He’s lazy and the only thing he’s good at it looking busy without actually doing anything.

I think people want him to do well because he’s done through the academy, but the truth is he’s absolutely shit at everything.

First half when we had more control and were attacking more he did well. Second half when we were defending more you saw his lack of ability unfortunately. Caught out way to may times.

A kind interpretation would be that the emotions of the day got to him in the second half and he wasn't the only one who dropped off, the half time team talk could have been an emotional one.

The problem is we have seen that type of poor defending and second half performance from him before.

If he goes to a team that try and play football I think he’ll have a solid prem career. Technically he’s good, his footballing brain is great but like you all say it’s his size, strength, pace that let him down.

Best thing he could imo is go play abroad somewhere like Spain or Italy, maybe Germany but it’s a lot of transition football.

I think he'll be a failure at basically every prem club including the promoted sides because of calamitous lack of physicality, but could have a great career in spain or germany.

I like Rico. Good footballer with eye for space and the ability to link up with others and work the ball into dangerous spaces. We saw bits of that yesterday especially in the first half. But he gets exposed at right back. He is quite good at the inverted right back thing - but his best position is further up the pitch and there does not seem to have been a place for him in the team in that advanced role.

Next season he will no longer be an Under-21 player and so will take a squad place. With the HG and CT rules there might still be a place for him but I think he really needs to go and be somewhere else where he can play more and develop as a good first team player.
That's a good analysis. I like Rico, for a spell 18 months ago he was my favourite City player (it's Nico O now).
