The Album Review Club - Week #216 (page 1412) - Together Alone - Crowded House

Running late with tallying up, but will do so today. It isn't holding anyone up though, as we are now into the playlist weeks, so I'm ising thatbas my comfort net.

Hope all goes well Fog.

It’s 3:22 am here and I am prepping for my colonoscopy. Also, I listened to this record a few days ago. The joy level on both remain neck-and-neck. That said, this IS better than Sleep Token. The nice way to say it is that it fails in its mission to make me feel how it wants me to. 3/10.
Bit late, but hope it went as well as possible. Nasty business.

In a life gets in the way fashion I've just found out I will no longer be able to get up to Manchester tonight to see Tinariwen of BM album thread fame :-(

So two tickets are going free to a good home if any of you can get there at short notice, The Ritz doors open 7pm.

If you were planning to stay in and sob over Pep this is a healthier alternative!

You'll need a Ticketmaster account so I can transfer them, but DM me if anyone wants them.

Thanks for the best wishes all — I appreciate it! Lots of medical stuff this week and next but I’ll be fine.

On another note I’ll likely be asking Ric to change my handle as it will be locationally-inaccurate soon. Any musically-related suggestions? Like “Radiohate” and “Radiodead” maybe? :) :)

Frankly I'm not sure I approve of either your retirement or your move. I can't claim your abandonment of Otis and his bay is on a par with Pep's departure but it does cause me very mild consternation.

Shame you're moving otherwise it could have been Baydiohead.

Had a listen to this and to be honest, I couldn't really tell when one song ended and another started.

I've always felt these 'heavy rock/nu metal' type bands just lack any variation - it's the same sound played slightly differently on every track on every album! I know that might be sound like an old man, but it does nothing for me this I'm afraid :(

3/10

Deftones' Private Music invited a fair amount of grumbling and scorn, amongst a total of 12 scores and reviews.

But even with more 3s than Reggie Miller, a couple of random high scores saw it just pass with an overal 5.5 score. Possibly faring as well as if not better than its very close runner up Midlake might have done. We may never know.

Next up, the playlist thing soon.

Take your time…. ;)

Aye, but I’m still watching for slackers :)

Another train journey so I just watched Pep’s farewell speech. Quite emotional.
Yep. I blame my tardiness on that, still carrying it.

In fairness, I did say sometime on Monday, so, still witin my deadlines.

The playlist is as below. Only 9 participants this time round, with numbers dwindling.

How come there are 11 songs then, you ask? Well, two of the posters sent me two songs to pick from. So, given the lower turnout, I included both. Always good to reward initiative, rules are for cabbage. Plus, thought it would make guessing a bit more fun, so I won't say who the two are.

@threespires will be along shortly with a spotify link too, thanks for that.

1. Take a little time - The Cash Brothers
2. Chop Suey - System of a Down
3. Sausage - Lil Mama
4. Here comes the sun - the Beatles
5. Sunday Shining - Finlay Quaye
6. The sun is rising - the Beloved
7. Antigone - Steph Strings
8. In the summertime - Cosmic Rough Riders Revolution
9. Evil Barbecue - Able Tasmans
10. Sincerely - The Moonglows
11. Van Halen - Summer Nights
12. The Scratch - Cheeky Bastard

The participants:

Here's the playlist to the extent it's doable at the moment

The Strand are not on Spotify and I didn't think the Style Council's Long Hot Summer was going to be an acceptable alternative! Picker please re-nominate directly to Coatigan

Lil Mama is on Spotify but bizarrely not this excellent pork based song - fear not I have found a 'hit squad' version if this isn't acceptable then please re-nominate to Coatigan also

As we are (at least) a track short I've put on a temporary bonus track of an artist I am sure is beloved of many on herre.

Edit: Having listened to Lil Mama's original on YT I really don't think the K-Tel version does it justice so I suspect we do need an alternative pick
