Savinho | May 2026 - Spurs linked again (p218)

This is generally where I'm at, but I also think if we get offered £50m+ they might just need to sell regardless at this point. Because if they reject big money for him two years in a row, when he's been open to the move two years in a row, it would put a huge amount of pressure on him and I'm not sure that he's mature enough to handle that.

The difference between Doku and Savinho is mentality. Doku's numbers weren't amazing first season but he played in big games and didn't let us down. Savinho is clearly much more of a confidence player - when he gets a goal or assist he goes up three levels, but it doesn't happen often enough.

Taking the money and reinvesting some or all of it into another young project winger is the 'safe' option.
Don't really see pressure mounting if we reject offers for him, i'd imagine that would be a big vote of confidence but neither of us know his mentality to say how it might impact him.

I agree he's a confidence player and lacks it, I'm not saying him and doku of 18 months ago share the same problems just that both have been in positions where the obvious talent wasn't realising it's potential.

How many posts did we have on here claiming Doku would never click, he'd never produce for us and had to go? Then suddenly he did click, he is producing and he's now irreplaceable. If we listened to thr majority of this forum, he'd be tearing it up for somebody else, we'd be much, much worse off without him and a rival probably snaps him up and we turn into old Chelsea watching on with envy as rival teams best players are players we got rid of. There is of course no guarantee Savinho follows that path, it might never click for him but if there is no clear substantial upgrade lined up, there is no reason to sell and abandon the investment.

The money isn't too good to turn down, it's good money but what are we going to do with £50m? it gets you some other talented kid and then we start the whole process again of hoping he reaches his potential in a few years and we carry him in the meantime.

Who replaces him is the most important question. Not against selling him but only if we bring in someone better and there are no obvious targets in a world where wingers are currently at a premium.

He's very talented. Right now it doesn't look like he's ready to step up and make the most of the talent but a large number of people wanted us to get rid of Doku over the last 2 years and said similar things to what they're now saying about Savinho.

What about the lad at Monaco who we have been linked with before… Akliouche.

yep thats the lad.

let Savinho go and promote MacAidoo

a little like we let Palmer go to make pace for Bobb. that maybe didn't pan out as well as we hoped but was hardly disastrous
There is no reason to make room for an academy graduate. They can come into the team freely without taking up squad space, so if they're good enough, they can simply jump ahead of others in the pecking order rather than moving up the pecking order because somebody further up leaves. If they're not good enough to do that, then why are we promoting an inferior player?

They've been playing 3 strikers up front for the last few weeks because all their wide players are either shit or injured. They haven't replaced Brennan Johnson, Xavi Simons won't be back until the new year, Kulusevski is crocked.

There's probably a player in there somewhere. Seems to regularly do the hard bit well and then has fuck all composure in the final third. It's exasperating. Maybe given a regular run of games in a side without the pressure of having to win every week (like he does here) is what he needs.

At City you really need to sort of hit the ground running and he hasn't done that. Think we've invested as much time as we should on him and would snap Spurs' hand off if it's the 50-60 million I've seen quoted. Amazed the price has only dropped 10-20 million on the figure given earlier this season to be honest.

Could see them moving Kulusevski on or getting a replacement based on his injury record.
Will have the summer off to recover further. Long absence following a challenge with Guehi if I remember correctly. Guys like him, Stones, and Rodri all need and deserve time. I rate him highly but think he probably played too much football in the season he got injured.

It's one of the reasons I think it's silly to get rid of players that will be well rested, Savinho/Lewis, when we're coming off the back of a World Cup and others have already played too much this season. It's quite likely that Haaland, Semenyo, and Doku will face problems next season, so weakening the squad is not the answer.
