1 | James Trafford - 2025/26

Definitely leaving the club. Certainly told his mates he's definitely leaving.

Whinging fucker. Won more this season than he'll win in the rest of his career.

Why do people think Trafford is somehow unreasonable for wanting to play every week?

I notice it’s mostly the same posters who hate our bench players like Rico too.

He signed thinking he’d play every week and the club changed its mind, he’s not done anything wrong. He also wasn’t gifted 2 trophies, he made plenty of big saves along the way and the worst thing he said was it wasn’t what he was expecting when he joined but he’d try to learn and make the most from it.

It’s ok for players to come and go without there being a hero and a villain in the story.

He’ll go on to have a great career and probably be Englands #1 for a long time. Donnarumma will keep being excellent and win lots with us. Everyone dial it down a bit.

I never said he was gifted them , hes nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. Wasn't great Sunday either. If he wants out I'm sure the club won't stand in his way .

Yeah how dare he be unhappy with signing as a number 1 only to be replaced literally weeks later. We well and truly fucked him over, he has every right to be considerably more unhappy than he has appeared.

I will be sad if he leaves. I think he is a better long-term option than Donnarumma, but if he has decided to go elsewhere then good luck to him. It feels like we were a bit dishonourable where he is concerned but elite sport can be like that.

Back-up to Donnarumma won't get games outside of the cups. An academy keeper like Whatmuff will benefit from consistent game-time so it is probably better to stay on loan.

He’s fully justified to be annoyed considering he was told he was brought in to be first choice and then we jumped on Donna when he suddenly became available.

However, can’t argue with the clubs decision either - you can’t turn down the opportunity to sign world class goalkeeper and winner like Donnaruma, and for peanuts as well.

A couple trophies to his name and he’ll get the move he wants this summer. Win win for all in the long run imo.

Edit: wouldn’t hate if we did what Chelsea did with Courtois and just loan him out to the same club for a few years.

Slightly different situations. Courtois is a full decade younger than Petr Čech, who was past his peak by that point

Trafford is only a few years younger than Donnarumma, he’d be waiting a long time to take his place

I was disappointed with him on Sunday. The tactic of staying on his line for corners was worse than Donnarumma who at least tries to come and punch it and stop players from pinning him in

True but no idea how long Donnaruma fancies sticking around

It’s not just the gap it’s the ages too. Trafford is 24 next season, Courtois was 19 when he arrived at Atletico and by the time he was 24 he’d done 4 years there and come back and won the league starting for Chelsea and another season after that.

Also Čech was 33 not 27 - and let’s be honest he could have kept playing for Chelsea for 3 of the 4 years he did at Arsenal.

By the way, Cech really doesn’t get enough mentions for best PL goalkeeper all time. It’s always Schmeichel, van der Sar, Allison etc. Cech has 200 clean sheets and the best ratio too. I feel like people think the head injury affected him more than it did.
