Music Albums - All killer no filler...

Exile on Main Street.
Not one duff truck. Not one. Many, many times, I've annoyed myself by putting the needle on the record, saying to myself, “Ah shit, I'll just listen to ‘Rocks Off’, it's such a pick-me-up, then I'll go out for the evening with a fizz in my step…”
Approximately ninety minutes later…

Live and Dangerous ...Thin Lizzy.
All Mod Cons...The Jam.
The Dirty South..Drive by Truckers.

I thought Led Zeppelin IV was the universally acknowledged answer to this question.

There are very few albums I can listen to start to finish in one go. Can count them on one hand. I watch with interest what others say.
I agree with this too, to some extent.
(Compilation or Greatest Hits albums are the nearest thing to a cheat for this I suppose)

It’s a fundamental flaw with the album format (which does have strengths too) and became even more pronounced in the CD era when bands felt obliged to cram on 70 mins of content, which inevitably watered down the quality even more. It’s what those who look back to albums with a rose-tint seem to forget.

Perhaps part of the “appeal” was suffering the wheat with the chaff, and it meant when the really great song came on you relished it even more cos of the mediocre one that had gone before.
