World Cup 2026

Croatia could be dark horses that'll do me, fuck Uzbekistan could be, maybe they have 10 more lads like Khusanov who just haven't had a chance to prove what they can do yet.

Majority of their squad play in Uzebekistan. A couple in Iran and Turkey but I'd be stunned if they had that much talent. There are always surprises in the World Cup though and with the heat, a team could just look to defend or counter attack their way to victory so who knows. Cannavaro is the manager!

Not sure Croatia can be called dark horses anymore - they've made the final and generally been very competitive. They're in England's group and our first game so we'll soon know how good they are!

Don't see Croatia doing anything. They're still largely relying on the old guard, can't imagine a 40 year old Modric in the expected baking heat tearing it up every 4 days or so.

Frimpong left out of the Dutch squad. Remember when dippers were buzzing about getting the best RB in the world?

I've never felt less excited for a world cup than this

Not sure what it is. Maybe the kick off times are at an awkward time for where I am. I think the extra amount of teams is part of it. I think 32 was about perfect with the right amount of games.

Might get more invested when it's underway but I can't really see myself tuning in until the last few stages of it.

I know I can't speak for everyone but it seems like there's less excitement in general. Nobody I know is really talking about it.

Englands opening match is in a 84k stadium, each set of fans have been given 4k, so they have 76k to sell to others, good luck with that at about $900 a ticket,it’s a fucking joke. Met Life is the stadium fir the final, you can’t walk there it’s illegal, they’ve closed the car park, so you can’t drive there, apart from VIPs, and the transit system is only selling 40k tickets, first come first served at $105 a ticket for a normal $12 ticket, NY said it wants money from FIFA to put more transport on. Met Life holds around 80k so how the fuck do 40k of fans get there with no transport?

You are welcome to park in my driveway if you want to. I am about a 15 minute walk from the "Boston" Stadium - ridiculous naming BTW. Let me know and I can organize it. Happy to help out when ticket prices are so damn outrageous.

Well damn, here's me re-thinking going to the Ghana game if I can get free parking with Bongo lol :)

Modric is still class. His intelligence on the pitch means he won't be wasting energy the way plenty of technically poor players will. I think he will be fine.

I can see England losing that first game to Croatia and then having to beat Ghana, or at least not lose...which will be tough on the basis they'll handle the heat much better.

Can see us scraping a third place spot and being glad there were more teams. Compared to most groups ours is going to be a challenge.

Mental that when I was a kid there were 16 teams in this tournament and now it’s 48 ffs.

Think 32 was the optimum.

Hope the grotesque spectacle this has become falls flat on its arse.

Echoes my thoughts. I looked through the group games and it's really hard to find any reason to watch most of them. England play Croatia and Ghana which are quite tricky ties. But the majority of other groups have one game that might be worth watching.

You go through that long process just to filter 48 teams down to 32 which is a nonsense.

The tournament won't really come alive until the last 16, at which point the dire spectacle will have reduced anyone's interest anyway.

I've just seen Brazil are hoping to have Neymar in their World Cup squad???

Wasn't he last semi relevant around the early days of when him and Messi were both at PSG? I.e yonks ago

Yeah I went enthusiastically to my calendar to highlight all the 'big' games. And I think Netherlands Vs Japan was one of the only obvious ones that stood out.
