Adam Wharton

Class act, would be amazed if he was still at Palace come next season start, but he seems to have some people not seeing his progress like Tuchel etc so you never know. Might go to the continent in that case.

Levels above Scott that is a pretty regular British product.

Allegedly spurs have offered £68m upfront with £7m add ons for Wharton! Where the fuck are they getting some level of money from?

Adam reminds me of an Argentinian international called Riquelme who played 20 years ago. His team would send him bullet passes and he would distribute the ball immediately, spraying at any angle from 0 to 360 degrees and at all heights. Passes along the ground would curl and be perfectly placed and crosses would drop accurately onto the head of a forward player.
I think that Adam's abilities are accurately analysed on the BM forum, BUT my only fear would be to see Wharton in a United or Liverpool shirt!

I can see him at Liverpool to be honest. It's been reported that he would rather move back to the north west and we clearly want Anderson.

Does he have the ability to break down tight defenses with very little room?

he seems good at spraying balls about when there is space but I think most of our current players can do that or improve on doing that. What we miss is the synchronisation of the attack in terms of getting on Doku's/Savinho's crosses, looped balls over the top to Haaland, perfect crosses to Haaland's head, releasing Cherki/Foden at the perfect moment to get a mid distance shot, thunderblasts from Rodri/Nico or fullbacks, being in the right place at the right time in general.

I can't put my finger on the magic answer of who to sign but I don't think it's a Wharton-type (more an Anderson-type plus a Cherki-type I think).

Anderson brings physicality to the side. Something we have been lacking for a coupe of seasons. None of our recent signings have delivered that. In fact the complete opposite
Semenyo and Guhei are hardly Walter the Softy. In midfield, however, I take your point.

In recent year, the physicality in England has gone through the roof, so if buying from outside, it' s got to the stage that we practically have to give them a year here just to build up the required strength.

We don't lack physicality, we have plenty of big, strong players, the entire back 4 are huge, rodri and nico are both units, doku is one of the strongest players in the league, semenyo is a strong lad and haaland is a monster. it's tenacity we lack.

David Silva then

We are talking abut mid-field not wide players and please don't tell me Haaland is as physical as he might be. Our current crop of Cherki, Foden, Reijdners and Gonzalez cannot put a tackle in without bouncing off their opponent. That's why we will miss Bernardo so much.

I think Cherki/Foden and Anderson would make a good combination in the final third, but Wharton has an uncanny ability to play the ball on the half turn, even when under pressure, and it's his weight of pass over the top that is so unerring. When he came on against us recently, he played 3 balls that carved us open, despite the fact that we were pressing him. By comparison, when we went to Bournemouth, they were holding a high line and Haaland was straining at the leash to be released, yet all balls were overhit.

Anderson would better help the overall team, but Wharton would be the perfect foil for Haaland and Marmoush.

A starting back 4 and midfield 2 of,possibly,
Nunes, Guehi Gvardiol O'Reilly
Rodri Anderson
is more than physical enough.

Spending more and getting Anderson with Wharton properly sets up our midfield for the next decade.

Yes, it'll cost more money than the 50m signings we love doing but many of those have turned out to be a waste of money.

Spend a bit more and get proper quality that'll last a long time, and we end up saving money in the long run and winning trophies.
