Dias

I think when Stones and Ake leave and there are consequently less injuries across back 4, I could see 5 CBs being too much, and someone wanting out over worries about game time. Gvardiol and Dias getting links away. Might have a decision to make...
Which is why you keep the RB backup spot open, as for Dias and Gvardiol, they start the season as first choice, and it is down to them to keep their place.

Think its clear we're not gonna do that though, been linked the three RB's already. If we go in with 5 and everyone stays fit for 6 months, you're gonna have two international CB's playing Max Alleyne minutes.

I would be surprised if this were true, but it will be competitive in our back line, especially if Reis returns: Gvardiol, Khusanov, Reis, Dias, Guehi.
Reis can't return unless someone leaves. We have 4 first teamers. 5 if you count Ake. Albeit everyone just assumes he is going.

Foden has deeper ties to City. If Dias is not a starter, he might leave.
My point was about being happy to release players if they've underwhelmed in consecutive seasons. I wouldn't want to lose either player.
We've collectively underwhelmed in the League for two seasons, and for me no player should think they're a guaranteed starter. If they can't stomach competing for a place, then they should feel free to go.

And I keep seeing Cucurella news - where we already have RAN and NOR (if he doesn’t move into mid) - I’m sure 90% will turn out to be fake news. but it still seems like someone is going to be irritated about playing time.

I wouldn’t be too fussed if Dias left. I think he still is our best box defender but I value Khusonov’s ability and potential more. In my eyes he could be the world’s best. Dias can close out games after every 70th min since teams come at us more in the 2nd half. I think that’s perfectly reasonable. But if he doesn’t want to play a reduced role then unfortunately his team must find a suitable buyer and part ways

I'd keep him for another year and have dias, guehi, gvardiol and khusanov as the main 4 centre halves. Reis to be 5th choice and get a few minutes here and there plus cup games.

Next year promote reis to 4th centre half and let dias leave unless he gets back to his best

Ake to go this summer.

I personally don’t think we can keep all 4 of Gvardiol, Khusanov, Guehi and Dias happy across a season. So if we go with that 4, one of them is leaving next summer (2027), assuming they don’t try a January exit.

I think Gvardiol, Khusanov, Guehi, Reis and Ake is a group that would work because Aké’s experience can compensate for Reis and his availability will be reduced by injuries, while Reis could play out of position and it being his first year in the Prem he’ll expect to play less.

It’s not that I want Dias out, I just want to keep Gvardiol more really as he’s the only other one who could feasibly go) and Reis is so good he’s coming either this summer or next.

I can also see the attraction for him. He just split with the missus, their home got burgled last year which often precedes a transfer, 29 is the perfect time for a last big move and you can see Real paying a hefty fee to get him especially now Mourinho (and Mandes) are there.

Might just be me but, I thought Dias was immense when he first arrived but more recently he’s looked the weak link - whether that’s the injuries, his lack of pace or his confidence I don’t know but I’d have Kushinov, Guehi and Gvardiol well ahead of him at the moment. Dias is a smart guy who may well have worked out that his minutes may be limited here and he might see one last big move to Real or similar where they don’t play such a high line and he would be more comfortable. Him and his agent are probably reviewing his options and you can’t blame them - I’m not sure if I was advising Dias this summer that I’d recommend he stays at City. I don’t think our system plays to his strengths or perhaps more accurately it exposes his weaknesses.

4 starting quality CBs with very good injury records plus an u21 doesn’t work. It didn’t work when we had Laporte, Stones, Dias, Ake and Garcia and that’s with Stones’ injury record and Garcia being shite.

Realistically we’ll have about 10,000 minutes to give to CBs next season. That’ll end up being 2 that play 3000 and 2 that play 2000.

Gvardiol and Guehi played 2000 in half a season this year. They’ll expect more, someone will get unhappy and try to leave in Jan like Laporte did.
