I think it has to be Trafford. Donnarumma is the better keeper just based on how good his shot stopping is but he doesn't fit the profile of a Maresca GK at all.

Quite interested to see how it all plays out.

It's going to be Donnarumma.

A lot of people on here are going to be caught in shock when the club doesn't bench the Italian national captain and current Yashin Award holder.

Can anyone even honestly say he's had a season that justifies dropping Donnarumma? Our goals allowed isn't the problem. We've comfortably had our 2nd lowest scoring PL season under Pep. Scoring is the issue.

I know people can compare to Joe Hart but Pep has admitted getting that wrong.

The thing about Pep is, he always sees and thinks ahead.

Maybe his just now our if the blue saying the whole 'should have given jos hart more of a chance' is just that, what he feels.

Or Maybe it is a subtle message to make the next guy think. Can never know with Pep.

Pep didn’t get that wrong. Ederson was arguably the best signing Pep made. Ederson was as key to any facet of our play for why we won as much as we did.

As a consistent Ederson defender on here, I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying, but it's more that Hart got dropped and loaned out without any real chance for the role a year before Ederson signed.

We looked a better team when Trafford was in. I’m not saying he’s a better keeper but he’s a far better fit.

Maresca demands a keeper that can build from the back. Can Donnarumma be that guy? I’m very skeptical. He made no improvement over the season.

Playing against Exeter, Salford and PL teams adjusting for the cup will do that. I dont think Trafford looked like a nailed on starter in any Premier League game this year.

If Maresca is that dogmatic, he's doomed to fail. Donnarumma doesn't need to be heavily involved in the buildup. All he really needs to do is recycle the ball quicker. That's more of a tendency issue than ability. He held on to the ball longer than needed a few times.

Your keeper isn't there to be your playmaker. Ederson was a luxury in possession that you can't replicate. If Maresca is any good as a coach, he's simply making sure Donnarumma plays the ball quicker to escape the press.

Even with Ederson, they'd drop Rodri to CB and spread the other 2 CBs wide to overlap any high pressing if teams actually press rather than the ones who just come to the Etihad and play 8 at the back.

Probably The Don but, if James does stay I'd not be surprised if there's some proper rotation early doors.

It's a difficult one, GD is one of the top 2/3 keepers in the world, JT will be in that bracket I think very shortly and has age on his side too.

I'd maybe flog GD at the end of next season while he's still got a long enough contract to give us some decent money but, and it's a big but, that'd perhaps mean JT would be happy going on loan with a guarantee (that he's heard before) that he'd be number 1 in 27/28.

It might not be as straight forward as people think in terms of it being Donna. Trafford has played under Maresca in the EDS previously and is much more aligned with his style of play. Will that be enough for Enzo to start him over one of the world's best keepers and his own country's first choice man. Time will tell I guess

I thought Trafford wasn’t good with corners against Villa. For those who are saying Donna will be off in a season or two, just watch how he is fitted into this club. I would argue his enthusiasm, and personality, have really endeared himself to fans. I think he has more of a relationship with the fans than Ederson even, and I he has been one of our best signings. The jumping into the fans, the parade, seems to love it here, oh and he’s a brilliant keeper! I think Trafford is pretty dour to be honest, and I get he’s disappointed as he was maybe promised the number one spot. Besides being the better keeper, I just love the way Donna has bought into the club, he just fits us so well. Maresca, Willy and the new goalkeeping coach will have more time to work with Donna. I’d be shocked if he’s not number one next season.
