Hats off to Atletico Madrid.

Barca up to their usual tricks but Atletico have stepped up to the plate and have ripped Barca a new one.

Called Barca out for all the tapping up, media pressure, fake stories, financial shenanigans, bribing refs etc

In response to Barca trying to unsettle Alvarez, they have made the following counter offer for Lamine Yamal

"4 tickets for tomorrows Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. We eagerly await the response to prepare the 'announce',"

Barca under Pep with Messi, Xavi and Iniesta were the best team I have ever seen and I truly loved watching them and the joy they brought through their beautiful football. But they're a really shady club, to be honest.

He didnt force his way out of City. City were quite happy to recieve that fee.

He wanted to leave though and Pep didnt seem to want to stand in his way if he didn’t want to be here. The fee they got was a huge, however the personnel we have in his place like Marmoush have been a huge downgrade.

Still not sure how good Alvarez is. Lots of talent, works hard but his numbers in La Liga weren't great. Not sure if he had injuries? Clearly wants to be the main man at a big club and I'm glad Atleti have exposed this. Barca surely can't afford to pay what they'll want? Still - would rather he doesn't go to Arsenal.

The replacements have no bearing on the argument you raised about "forcing " his way out.
It is a stated policy that if someone wants to leave, and the club get an offer that is acceptable , they can leave.
The Club and Pep have stated this many times.
I am sure if Haaland said he wanted to leave and an offer taking into account his length of contract and his goalscoring record was recieved , then he could go. (4/500 million)

Pipe dream maybe but I’m hoping Atleti simply refuse to do business with them, Marmoush has a standout World Cup and Barca decide to use the money on him instead.

He’d suit their system better than ours and the slightly slower, less physical La Liga.

I think one of the biggest parts of the story is they’ve basically accused Barcelona of paying Romano to put out stories Alvarez is unhappy.

It’s already been known for years that clubs and agents try to put their players on the market/boost news about them by paying Romano but a club planting false stories is new and hopefully it’s the end for the money grubbing prick.

Always thought he forced his way out of City to Atletico to get an indirect move to Barca or Madrid as City don’t like doing deals with them.

He had a problem with work and residence permits for his family who were with him mum, dad and two brothers, by moving to Spain they were all able to get long term residence

As I said a "stated" policy that players who do not want to stay can leave if the club get what they believe is a fee they are happy with. Pep himself said this many times. His family, and percieved playing times are 2 reasons, probably others too.

It is a folly keeping any player who does not want to be at a club.

A. Some , not all players will drop their standards
B. Players who are not happy are more likely to cause dressing room and club disharmony.

City are particularly good at creating a family atmosphere, as you will have witnessed at pep's farewell, the numerous videos and returning players all mentioning that.

Contrast that with Rashford and Salah disrupting Liverpool and United.

Is Alvarez our highest incoming fee?

The only thing that annoyed me about Alverez was him fouling for no good reason so much.

He used to squander all his good work in putting defenders under pressure by then just giving away a silly foul.

But they don’t pay their bills

I take it Barca are not skint anymore going by the players they are interested in.

They were never really skint, they just got put in cost control measures by La Liga so they could only spend €1 on salaries and transfer fees for every €4 they generated.

Now they’re out of those measures (because their debt is under control) they can spend the money they always had freely.

They should be able to spend about €200m on amortised fees and wages if a few expected departures happen (Lewandowski frees up €34m, Christensen €17m)

Which is a lot. Gordon takes up €24m of that (70m fee/5 years = 14m + 10m/year salary).
