Champions League Final 2026 | Sat 30th May | Paris Saint-Germain v Arsenal

I was watching it with a group of lads in their early 20s as I know two of them quite well (who are brothers). Group were all Liverpool and Villa fans. All went mental when Gabriel missed.

I’d actually warned one of them as Gabriel walked up that this seemed too good to be true and to not expect the **** to miss!
Hope you didn't tag along with them after.

I would just like to congratulate both sets of fans.
Those that had a ticket went, turned up on time, found their correct seat and sat in it.
Those that didnt have a ticket didn't try to jib in, steal a ticket from their own fans and sit in someone else's seat, climb over fences or use forged tickets.
Further, those that went didnt fight the locals, push people in fountains, expose themselves, steal hardworking shop keepers property and then claim it wasn't their fault, they were the victims and ring a no win no fee solicitor for 'compo lah'.

Not that im stereotyping of course.

Numerous ridiculous comments in this thread.

For starters, PSG are the best club in world football at present, but best club ever - no. The best club ever is debatable but for me was Barca 2010-11.

Next, the claim that we are very close now with our present squad to PSG and would be favorites to beat them - total nonsense. We are good going forward but struggle on defense. We give opponents numerous chances to score against us. PSG would rip us apart. That said, we do seem more capable than PSG against a low block defense - Doku, in particular, can beat 2 defenders at once, creating numerous goal scoring opportunities. By way of contrast, PSG struggled to break down Arsenal's low block, creating very little.

A big factor in the final was Arsenal's early, lucky goal. Once Havertz scored, Arsenal parked the bus making it extremely difficult to score against them.

For me, the best sides in world football right now, are:
1) PSG
2) Bayern
3) Barca
4) Arsenal

We are still rebuilding and have a bit of catching up to do. On top of this we have a new manager and many stalwarts (Silva, Stones, etc.) are leaving. I think we'll be better next season, perhaps good enough to win the league.
on winning the league

City, probably, will be the fastest team to adapt to the new manager, Liverpool will be second and Chelsea will have growing pains

regarding Arsenal, they probably will drop off after winning the league, they also had a lot of games + WC will impact them

Putting Arsenal alongside those sides is laughable. They won a terrible premier league and we shouldn’t have been anywhere near it. As you said we’re in a rebuild, that Arsenal side wouldn’t have sniffed the league for any of the City Liverpool seasons.

They are not a serial winner like the other three sides you’ve mentioned.

I don’t agree the Tarquins are better than us, we’ve played them 3 times and only a late equaliser stopped them losing all 3 games.

As for the best team ever (I know you said club but I’m generalising) I can only go back to the 60’s for comparison but the best performance in World Football was the 1970 Brazil team, never bettered.

The best European performance, in my opinion, AC Milan in the 93/94 European cup final where they humiliated Barca 4-0, they took their foot off the gas about an hour in, they were so dominant. I’ve just looked it up, Milan had Van Basten, Lentini, Baresi, Costacurta, Raducioiu, Papin and Brian Laudrup all missing but still destroyed Barca, phenomenal performance. Pep and Txiki were playing for Barca that night.

Hard to believe any teams fans would behave like that - know wharra I mean la ?

No, I went home pretty much as soon as the mayhem died down as I had some chicken in the oven.
That made me laugh, one of our golfing group said a couple of years ago (there was 16 of us playing), “I need to go out in the first group as I’ve got a chicken in the oven”. It’s become a bit of a legend now, if someone needs to go out first “the chicken in the oven” is always the narrative.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking in his post-match press conference:

"I watched all the penalties in the Champions League this season during the last 72 hours to understand what is a penalty and what's not, and that can easily be a penalty."

Sums up their mentality. Why would you spend the last 72 hours going through penalties unless you (a) intended to attempt to win penalties during the match or (b) try to scramble through 120 minutes to reach a penalty shootout?

Is Arteta talking about Saka doing his juggling act ?

The thing killing English football at the highest level in Europe is the sheer amount of games and the physicality of the league.

However that same physicality has proven mid table English sides to be far too much for foreign opposition in the Europa + conference leagues to handle.

At the very top level Bayern and PSG currently have the luxury of romping their leagues at a canter. Anthony Gordon will go to Spain and look a world beater, despite having scored 12 goals in two premier league seasons for Newcastle.

That’s because playing Elche and Alavez is a hell of a lot easier than facing Palace and Forrest.

This, imo is where we need to find a solution. Whether that’s a bigger squad, players with great natural fitness etc. I don’t think we can continue to exhaust certain players like we did under Pep, Rodri and Bernardo playing every single game when fit for example.

Two players for every position needs a comeback.

We're better than Arsenal, the league stats and the stats regarding 'incorrect' refereeing and VAR decisions going for them is proof of that.

Yes, I was quick to point out to them when I left that it wasn’t a euphemism!

“They’re the best team the World’s ever seen,” says Graham of City. “And we’ve seen in the past at Manchester City and at other clubs as well, just spending money doesn’t necessarily get you the best team. It might get you the best team this season, but not the best team in the world for six seasons in a row, or longer. Pep is the best coach on the planet. On the pitch, they are incredible to watch.”

“They are the best side of all time. There is no argument about that. Manchester City don’t even have Lionel Messi and they’re still easily the best. It’s a criminally underrated team.”

Ian Graham (Director of Research at Liverpool F.C.)

PSG is recency bias. They’re very inconsistent. They’re probably the best right now but not by much. Best side ever? Give me a break.

My opinion…

1. Barca 2011
2. Bayern 2014
3. City 2023
4. Real Madrid 2014
5. Brazil 1970
