World Cup 2026

Arsenals English contingent warming up for our best hope in penalties well.

Eze giving it the Billy big bollocks after doing nothing all season and nearly smashing it out for a throw.

We got Madueke who as a clear sub option will fairly likely be on the pitch if games get to penalties being too much of a shithouse to take one ahead of a cb.

Rice did score his in fairness although it wasn't a well taken one.

Yep,looking back at the World Cup from 90 -2018. Jam packed with superstars. The state of football at the moment.

But this last iterations are more balanced.
In prior years the team was stacked with forwards. And lately at least we don't have those stupid Redondo, Zanetti, Tevez, Riquelme etc etc not being called.

Indeed I would love to have some Agüero, Tevez, Kempes alike upfront and I hoped Scaloni called a kid called Aranda from Boca to at least give him a top experience in a WC.

Still one of the best ever, my favorite one.

The main issue, it's that the level of treatment towards fellas like Maradona and to a lesser extent Zico and Platini, was wayyyyyyyy beyond bad, directly insane. It's way worse to allow such treatment (that extended til 1990, but that Cup was far the worse) than any dubiosu to wrong call taht will always happen. That was lame and in fact started to change the rules and approach to protect more the more more talented ones. The level of not just harsh, bordering prison fouls, but mostly worse tactical fouling was quite sthg.
Maradona got absolutely brutalized in this WC. Gentile, Romeo Benetti et al kicked lumps out of him as I recall.

Even worse than that, was the constant tactical foul.

As a side note, that match had Gentile with a yellow since the very first minutes, while never seeing another yellow for the rest of the game, I guess miracles actually exist.

On the other hand, the usual bricklayers and butchers of Kempes, Maradona and Ardiles had a yellow each one of them and Gallego (a real butcher) got a red card.

You missed Saka's double handball and his contribution of 4 (four) completed passes in the game.

He made a pass twice as many times as he handled in the area....it'd be good on a RIP gravestone for either the PL throbbers or the NT throbbers.

For me, France is favorite to win; but Portugal, England, and Argentina all have strong sides and could easily displace France.

It's a pity that FIFA is so corrupt and that the competition is held in America (my home nation). Ticket prices are unaffordable by most fans, and America is hostile towards nearly all nations.

To top the enshitifaction off - it's Fox that has broadcast rights to the world cup in the USA. Fans of football in the USA will likely be subject to clueless commentary from announcers who either know fuck all about football or are simply inept at their job.

As a US citizen, hugely supportive of the sport, there's no fucking way that I'm paying for a hugely overpriced ticket... and I cringe at the likely shit coverage of the games that Fox will provide.

It's going to be a clusterfuck logistically. 48 teams across a huge area. Insane ticket prices. US has gone off the deep end, and we all know the admin will pull something reprehensible. Just a complete middle finger to the fans.

France have the best squad (again) imo but I'm not sure if they'll pull it all together. Portugal could win it if they did the smart thing and dropped Ronaldo.

I don't think I will bother watching unless I'm bored shitless.

Went to the CWC last year and the heat was insane, ridiculous expecting players to run around in that heat. Should be in the Southern hemisphere.

Ticket prices just crazy, feel sorry for England fans who do want to go.

US felt a lot more un safe than when we were there 30 years ago, Philadelphia very dodgy at night, never again.

Yup. And I think it was the next game against Brazil that Maradona finally lost it after all the punishment and got a red himself.

Its hard to appreciate just how far apart some of the games actually are

England's first game is in Texas, and their second is in Boston, just the 4 hour flight between the two areas!

I've been to Mexico a few times which is an 11 hour flight, and flying over Canada felt like you were only half way

I've just had a look through the fixtures in the first week of the tournament and its only just hit me now what an awful mess it really is. I genuinely think there's 2, maybe 3, of the games I'd like to watch. And that includes the England match. Throw in the kick off times over here and this whole thing could very easily pass me by.

I watched most games in 1994. Double the teams this time, the nations are better developed 30 years on though.

I know 1994 was derided in the UK press as they hated that Ireland got there, but it was a good world cup although the final was poor.

It is odd when americans refer to transport or organising something as "logistics", no wonder they fell so far behind Japan and now China.

This World Cup could be fun. A shit show of logistics, ticket prices, run by a corrupt football organisation in partnership with a corrupt government with a man-baby as a president. Add in a few ICE agents and a team the US is at war against and it promises to be the most watchable world cup ever.....pop corn ready!

1994 was a great WC. Especially for me as a Paddy...;) But overall it was a great tournament - albeit with a poor final.
