Fixtures Calendar - 2026/27

you already do for the two finalists. So basically they have an approach right now which penalises the two finalists. Could easily have a complete midweek set of fixtures. Appalling what’s happened to the FA Cup
Rightly or wrongly the FA Cup is a much lower priority for both teams and (more importantly) broadcasters than the PL.

The multi billion pound PL broadcasting contracts for both the UK and overseas are quite rigid in terms of how many ‘matchweeks’ are played at weekends and how many are midweek. The international contract is now worth more than the domestic one and those broadcasters want weekend games rather than midweek ones for the same reasons that the CL final now kicks off three hours earlier than was previously the case - evening kickoffs are a lot less lucrative to Asian broadcasters.

Those broadcasters aren’t going to be willing to approve moving a full programme of PL games to midweek just to accommodate the FA Cup final. Not saying I agree with it but that’s the economics of today’s football.

If everyone is penalised then nobody is penalised
No, if everyone is penalised, everyone is penalised. It's litterally in the wording, what you mean is no one is penalised more than anyone else - and even that isn't true as all the fans of the teams that have to play midweek are penalised.

Well then everyone is penalised several times a season as there are already full midweek game weeks

If I was to have a guess on the first game of the season for us it would be Coventry away on the Friday night
I know for sure them bastards will get Hull at home. Then another 2 or 3 very favorable games..Just to get them into the title race from the off, then Pigmol can do their thing. Just watch.

unbelievable,No just finish the last 10 Premier games on the Sunday like before then the cup final following SATURDAY.FFS.
That would have worked many years ago but not now, unless you want the PL to finish two weeks before the CL final weekend. The fixture calendar is already too compressed for that to happen.
Obviously it happened in 22-23, but that season had already been screwed due to the mid-season World Cup and the CL final was 10th June, which is probably the latest ever.

Going to be even more Sunday games this season, 4 teams in Europe playing on a Thursday. Then Sky will inevitably want the big 4:30pm kick off on a “Super Sunday”.

Where not possible due to CL games on a Tuesday could also see quite a few games moved to the Saturday 8pm slot.

Newcastle and Chelsea could see some Monday night games a bit like the rags last season.

Whatever happens the TV companies won’t worry about the match going fans, just as long as it suits their schedule they won’t give two fucks.

Don't blame the TV companies. blame the PL for signing the deal.

The current structure for the Premier League, the Champions League and the domestic cups is unsustainable. There have been some changes including getting rid of cup replays. The only 'easy' option is to bin the stupid two-legged League Cup Semi-finals.

The obvious solution is to reduce the size of the Premier League from its current 20 teams. They did manage to reduce it from 22 to 20 a few years back with little pain. A reduction to 18 would knock four matches from the schedule. France did this recently starting with the 2023-24 season.

The problem is how to get that voted through by the PL as well over half the League will be asked to vote to potentially relegate themselves.

If you qualify for any of the European competitions you should be excluded from the league cup.
Or just cancel it anyway. The FA cups enough. Don't think any other leagues play for 2 domestic cups.
