Raheem Sterling arrested after drug driving crash

Failing to supply a specimen is not a good look.

I personally hope he gets educated as part of the punishment for this, I agree with not pulling him apart for the crack of it (no pun intended) but also it’s serious to get behind the wheel of a car intoxicated with anything.

My mate was run over and killed when I was 13, I’m in my late 40’s now and just typing that ran goosebumps all over my body. The impact was horrific and long lasting, I blamed myself as we were supposed to play a board game the night he died (he went out with other friends and I never knocked on his door).

I went round to his house a few nights later and watched his mum break down in sobs, she eventually caught sight of me and just pulled me onto her lap as we both sobbed.

The guilt I allowed myself to wallow in consumed me, I started using recreational drugs at a young age, booze, hanging around on the streets etc…..but I never learnt to drive until only 10 years ago as I never wanted that responsibility - I know I couldn’t have lived with myself had a made a life ending mistake.

Now I’m pretty much tea total, driving with family of my own - something I never actually dreamed about or desired when I was young…..but I recognise that the selfish idiot that killed my friend didn’t have the brains or couldn’t foresee the consequences of his actions, he neither possessed the bravery to own and acknowledge his actions either - he went on to knock over a much younger child further down the line…..I know for a fact he wasn’t educated in any way, shape or form after the death of my friend.

I feel if Raheem was made to speak to people who had lost loved ones to the reckless actions of others then he’d realise the seriousness of what he’d done and reflect on his own family / life and not commit another such mistake as now it’s his future actions that matter more than what has just happened.

Fortunately this time, nobody was hurt……..I just hope there’s not another time. I’d rather people have sympathy for his depression but with an emphasis on him taking future responsibility for his actions.

Whatever anybody says, he’s clearly not acted like he understands that responsibility we all have when we get inside our vehicles.

That's shocking and could have been fatal. I really think that this is the end of his football career. Regardless of the money and the status, people have a duty to people in our society. You're sharing the road with families, fathers, mothers, kids, grandparents, and by doing something so reckless you're playing russian roulette in a life and death situation.

But there is a chance for something positive here. He's a celebrity, if he can get help, get educated, sort himself out, then he could become a very visible educator and speaker on the dangers of impaired driving, the stresses of public life and more. He's no doubt suffered because of the game, the way he's been treated, probably also things on his personal life have spiraled to take him to this place. But he's very, very lucky to not be sat there right now wishing he could give it all away to just not have caused a fatality. Come on Raz, you're better than that. Use this as a fuel to do something better.

Bloody hell Raheem. You're very lucky, and so are the others on that road. I, like most other city fans, defended you when they came after you for the gun tattoo, the racist toned narrative, and wished you well for your future career when you left. He might feel like his life is in the gutter right now, but honestly he needs to see this as a wake up call for living the rest of his life with respect and purpose.

And to answer Sam Lee, yes that van has the situational awareness of a damp sponge getting so close to a car swerving like an accident waiting to happen. It's a classic case of the 'me first' mentality seen daily on our roads which also causes accidents, just replacing the drug element with absent-brain syndrome.

Do Chelsea not have a get out jail free card here in terms of his contract? Surely it’s gross misconduct

I can’t see Sterling having a public profile when he finishes football.

I’m sure we’ll get a post on his social media account expressing his regret and how he’s in a bad place at the moment etc.

Then the rest will be down to whether he’s charged or not.

If (repeat, for the hard of hearing, IF) that video is him, he needs locking up. If he wants to kill himself, so be it. But driving like some 17 year old on their first provisional licence on a public road, due to him being (allegedly) stoned, endangering innocent people going about their daily business, is a twat's trick. As for him possibly being depressed, most of us go through dark periods in our lives. I certainly have. But I like to think that I wouldn't go about putting other people at risk. And if anyone asks am I a perfect driver, the answer is no. I was done for speeding (70kph in a 50kph zone) in 2007. 3 points, and a €80 fine. Never done it since, and I wouldn't dream of drink driving. Which can be awkward when you live in a rural area with no public transport. But you just get on with it. Either Heineken Zero, or get a taxi.
