Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Marinakas will play clubs off against each other to drive the fee up. And why wouldn't he. Is is holding all the cards here. They got a penalty for not balancing the books, so he's gonna ride this as far as possible. This will deffo break the British transfer record.

He can’t play that card because we know Anderson only wants Man City

Just to put things into perspective. Anderson's value is almost double what we had bought Rodri for. He is definetly a good player and is what we do currently need but I don't think he is as good as a prime Rodri. Our priorty still has to be is to keep Rodders for this season, regardless the noise that is coming from Real Madrid

Prime Rodri didn't arrive until 2 years after we bought him, and that was what 7 years ago? In fact, many posters had a personal obsession of how "shite" he was and would never fill fernandinho's boots between 2019-21.

You pay for the succession plan.

Of course, we need to get Rodri to commit as well but that might come down to the length of contract on offer too

Still was much better than Anderson.

you can't really compare his market value to Rodri

there have been a number of £100m+ players since then and if we were looking to buy Rodri now the price would be astronomical.

you can only really compare his fee with recent top Premier League fees. So Rice, Caicedo, Wirtz, Isak, Enzo

Rice cost 105m THREE years ago.

I'm guessing the fee will end up around 115m, if broken up slightly, or less if in one go.

Still nearly double. Not suggesting Anderson might match Rodri's achievements but it still a hell of a steep climb.

He was. Just took him a time to fully adjust to the Premier League.
You obviously haven't read the Pep book, Pep was getting frustrated with him, was sent aside for special traing with Lilo to get him to understand what was required and understand the positional side. Luck for is he was a good student.

Rodri's tactically better for starters. Rodri's scored a Champions League winning goal and helped Spain win the last Euro's (before injury robbed him almost two season's)
Rodri was the best midfielder in the world. If we're only buying a player based on whether they're as good as prime Rodri then we wont buy anyone.
