Wetherspoon

once the local shops are out of business the supermarkets can do what they like and up their prices exponentially until they are not the cheap option they used to be because there's not many other choices.
That is absolute bollocks
Supermarket pricing has never been more competitive
You had the big four, which is now a big six
Tesco
ASDA
Sainsbury
Morrisons
Aldi
Lidl

Then the freezer discounters
Iceland
Farm Foods

And then the large independent discounters
B&M
Home Bargains

And in an emergency, there's always a Co-op or local store

Was last in the Reginald Mitchell in February. Some sorry sights.
next time you are there, go down to stoke town centre instead.
"The Wheatsheaf" is a much nicer spoons (used to be a good music venue)

some great boozers in the area,
when i lived there my local was The Holy Inadequate in Etruria.
best pub i've ever been lucky enough to live close to.
look it up, you won't be disappointed.

I was working in Hanley mate, so Stoke town centre wasn’t on the agenda.

i don't think an average supermarket cumulative 29% price increase since 2020 is competitive.
it vastly outpaces standard inflation rates and historical norms.

but then again,
i'm a moron who thought spoons sold out of date beers, so what do i know :)

I was going to type a long detailed reply about food prices, droughts and wars, but CBA
Just one example
look at fuel costs as a comparison and an affect on the price of food
Electricity is 35-40% more than it was in 2020

i know, mate.
ignore me getting on one about capitalism, i hate it, that's all,
but they are all making billions while people are genuinely struggling.

let's disagree agreeably :)

The only disappointment I have had since I moved to Cleveleys 8 months ago, is that the nearest Wetherspoons to us ( The Jolly Tars in Cleveleys) is always jam packed all afternoon and evening from Wednesday - Sunday.
So we tend to jump on the tram ( free for us local FOCs) and go to the Spoons in Fleetwood, which is about 50 yard from the tram stop.
The Blackpool and Fylde MCFC coach picks up just over the road from The Jolly Tars, so I usually get my breakfast in there when City have an early kick off.
Went into the Royal for the first time on Sunday £2.95 for a really good smooth flow Boddies after meeting friends in The Jolly which wasn't too busy for once, then into The Vault which was really quiet, finished in The Greedy Banker.

Nothing too expensive and a good late afternoon/early evening was had by all.

they sell nearly out-of-date beer, that's why it''s cheap and why you often end up with the squits the next day.

they are like the supermarket of pubs = high volume, low margins...

their aggressive pricing policies undercutting the traditional local pub has helped to put a huge amount of them out of business, just like the supermarkets put lots of small shops out of business.
And the owner is a ****

I never buy beer in a supermarket or a convenience store for that matter. None of the lagers (canned or bottled) remotely appeal to me. Use the same specialist beer shop in Birmingham that I’ve used for years for all my beer at home. They have an amazing range of Helles beers. All about £4 a bottle, mind!

Why the fuck would I want to go to the Co-op for my beers when I could go here?!

The other thing is I’ll often end up in a Spoons for breakfast if I’m away and got some work or reading to do before the day starts in earnest and I’ve seen some right sights at nine in the morning. Addicts, feeding their addiction basically.

The Spoons in Hanley, Peterlee, Grimsby and Walsall being especially notable.
Eating with the great unwashed !! Fucking hell, i used to like you...;)
