The Squad planning thread

Yeah, about that.......

Come on now, we all watched, he made basic side passes ( made them look tough at times mind you ) and didnt have to hoof ball as much as other keepers do. He is and never will be comfortable enough on the ball to consistently complete average to tough passes

Think you're right and I suspect we'll be 'ok' with that.
If, as rumoured, he wants Haaland money then we need to say 'no' IMO.

He'll be pushing 31 at the end of his deal. But the only player I would be paying £300k+ to is Gvardiol.

He's our best CB, our best left back. He's seriously good.

Definitely rather see us give a big new deal to Gvardiol than Rodri.

The drop off was quick for a lot of our top midfielders in recent years, especially once they hit 32. We are better off losing Rodri early, than have him stuck with us too long on huge wages. We should still keep him next season though.

Well the stats would suggest otherwise.

I think Ederson has completely warped most people's opinions of what a keeper being "good" with his feet looks like.

Ederson is 1 of 1.

Pass completion has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are competent passer or not as a keeper nor does it tell you the full story, KDB had stinking pass completion compared to many others and im sure you know why. James Trafford could sleep walk to 80% if given regular game time like donna gets. Do they have the % when a player is within 5 to 10 feet? Does it factor in that many times he hasn't been trusted to be given the ball? And is given it only when it's easier for him?

Edit actually if Trafford was given the exact same scenarios Donna was given he would have over 80% pass completion no problem. Trafford would be given the ball more often and in more difficult situations thus bringing his % down. Donna given the same would be benched very quickly

If the board think he’s the guy and Pep has endorsed him as the guy then surely he deserves a chance?
He does but he clearly doesn't hold any type of influence or sway on a psychological level with players, not saying kompany has that in abundance like pep as of now but I believe he's building it and his demeanour in general is one to be listened to.

I think there will be more outgoings than we think. Players that came here for Pep not the club. Which is fine if they don't want to be here then they can go.

Anyone who wants out, usual process of come with a acceptable bid, wouldn't want any players staying unhappy.

However with the greatest of respects to anyone sharing info, Gvardiol is on record saying he's happy and has everything he needs at City. And personally I'll believe that more than any chatter on a forum.

See how it pans out but I'd be surprised if he left.

I wonder if certain players "form" will drop with the advent of a new manager and conversely if some players that haven't impressed will improve dramatically.

A few players have gone on record as saying that they struggled to grasp what Pep wanted. Will that translate to players hitting the ground running instead of taking a year to adapt?

Will the output of the likes of Tijani or Savinho spike? Hope so.

Anything at the moment is just pre world cup noise. The media and social media click bait accounts need content to drive traffic, so everything is to be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

Gvardiol is class and I'd hate to see him go. But, if he does have a desire to move elsewhere, his ability and age means he would command a huge fee. That would serve City well in terms of sourcing a replacement and a replacement that is 100% committed to the cause.

The ideal is that on-going contract talk results in a positive outcome for club and player. A nice pay rise, and City securing his services for a good few years to come.

Given weve just paid Josko for 6 months for him to rehab and helped him get ready for the WC, hes a cheeky bastard.

As a matter of principle Id never sell anyone to Bayern either. Contract till 2028 - I wouldnt let him go anywhere; same with Rodri - Id rather he played it out like Bernardo if we cant agree a contract. He'll be 31 at the end of next season and this upcoming year likely his last one at his top level.
