Strange decisions to disallow City goals pre-VAR

I was watching 2 games on YouTube before
Which Contained 2 goals in Different games Disallowed
Wonder if any one could enlighten me as to why?

The First was Joe Royle 1976 v Newcastle where he chips the keeper and it's disallowed
I can only assume offside?
He looked Confused after it was disallowed, it would have been 3-1

The Second was Steve Howie Header at Wolves under KK won 2-0
No explanation at the time
Looked like the Referee was arguing with the Wolves Player Rae after he had made his decision?

Anyone got any other Instances PRE VAR?

It’s been going on forever vs Liverpool the disallowed goals.

One that strangely sticks in the mind twenty years later is Samaras heading home a corner against Newcastle, ruled out for no reason that anybody could see and it finished 0-0. Graham Poll. I’d never really believed before then that referees might be corrupt rather than just incompetent, and that one really made me wonder.
