Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Not even remotely the same player. I think Rodri's physicality and dominance in midfield is so severely underrated. Rodri was running games himself for years and not just through technique but because he could run and dominate players that come near him with strength.

Wharton is a tidy player, can play a pass and link together with other players but a replacement for Rodri he is not.
The same Rodri who when he 1st came was nicknamed plodri because he looked slow, didn't anticipate danger & looked as though he couldn't even lace 35 year old Fernandinho's laces & look at the player he became.

Imo Rodri's main atributes are how he dictates the play with his passes, how he can play looping passes out to the wingers that negate our slow build up.

If Rodri does go I don't think their is a direct replacement & I can't see Maresca being bold enough to play 1 defensive midfielder

We can’t get rid of too many experienced players in one go, Bernie, Rodri, Kova, no way.
Exactly this. To allow Rodri to go with Bernardo having already left would be madness. If it means Rodri runs his contract down for a year so be it. Bernardo leaves a huge gap for so many reasons - our most influential player and leader. Keep Rodri and Nico G who should be used more and bring in Anderson and Wharton. Allow Nico O to develop further with more games in midfield. It's a long season and we need to be well stocked in this area particularly if we play a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Really hope we sign Anderson. Genuine world class potential in my opinion.

Also find it crazy to see any negativity thrown towards Rodri in terms of ability, been the best MF player in the world last 5/6 years.

Anderson/MGW, throw 160m at Forest. Be perfect for what we need for me

I don’t hate the Anderson / MGW links. In fact, I wanted MGW last summer and I want Anderson now, but it is a slight concern for me that this was the bulk of the central midfield of a side that narrowly escaped relegation. At some point you have to say do we really want them BOTH?

Indeed. Especially when some of our other players have been coming from mid table teams at best I.e Semenyo, Guehi etc

I don't mind it per se, there's obviously quality players that don't start out at the very best clubs and are good buys for top teams...but I'd also like us to start bringing some players who are proven at the highest levels too. We need a mixture. Too many players who have never proven anything above mid table level can be fast track to end up there ourselves, especially with our experienced winners going elsewhere like Bernado, Rodri within the next year, Stones etc.

Recruitment is everything now we are in transition and our manager left. We're not beyond becoming a team that can't compete anymore, all it takes is a couple of years of bringing in players who can't cut it and it's a long way back.

The rags are a prime example. If you said when Sir Alex was there that they wouldn't come close to a title again for decades later on, nobody would believe it, they were pretty dominant.

Their ownership wasn't the biggest problem. They were financially backed but they've pissed crazy money up the wall on players who couldn't compete at the top and then just ended up chasing their tails for years trying to rectify it.

If any of our city fans think that can't happen to us, they're naive or deluded. It absolutely can if we bring in too many players who aren't quite at the required level.

Don’t even compare that Utd squad with City. Fergie left an ageing squad by that time, but we got an excellent younger squad. Doku Haaland Guehi Gvardiol Nunes Donna Cherki Semenyo litterally is still in their prime. We need to add only 2 new centre mid, one backup right back then we are fine to go again.
United had Vidic, Ferdinand, Van Persie, Berba, Carrick, Scholes to replace.
The squad planning is important and that’s what separate our owner and their owner

Rare to see a City fan comment on this message board. We are looking for the final jigsaw pieces.

Just seen Adrian durhams analysis of the game yesterday I didn’t watch it but he said Anderson was head and shoulders above everyone and City need to get it done before World Cup
I think he’s spot on hopefully gets sorted early next week because his value will only go up

We don’t and it’s a nonsense the people saying otherwise. We want Anderson. He’s top and will improve our first 11.
