We don't play 1 defensive midfielder now even with Rodri, so I don't see how or why we'd do it without him.The same Rodri who when he 1st came was nicknamed plodri because he looked slow, didn't anticipate danger & looked as though he couldn't even lace 35 year old Fernandinho's laces & look at the player he became.
Imo Rodri's main atributes are how he dictates the play with his passes, how he can play looping passes out to the wingers that negate our slow build up.
If Rodri does go I don't think their is a direct replacement & I can't see Maresca being bold enough to play 1 defensive midfielder
