Savinho | May 2026 - Spurs linked again (p218)

If only he had the steel to match his attacking desire. Just strikes me as too weak out of possession. This league now requires a higher degree of physicality. Something I hope we address this time around.

A guy who just turned 22 lacking consistency is hardly worth selling him over IMO. A million wingers have been inconsistent at that age and pulled it all together at 23/24.
Age is a factor but the different side of the coin Phil Foden was a regular at 22.

At least Doku did improve at City. Same with Nunes. Savhino hasn't really clicked at City and has been given opportunties to make a mark.
Those two only shone in their third seasons, and one had to be shoehorned into a new position. Savinho has only had two seasons and the second was punctuated with injury.

As I’ve said elsewhere, this transfer should have been concluded and his replacement brought in last summer, but for some reason it never materialised. Savinho played the 120 against Al Hilal, came off the bench and scored his penalty in the Community Shield, but then was mysteriously not included in the first three League games with the old ‘unknown injury’. Either Spurs or ourselves couldn’t get the other business done and the move never materialised. I think we were as keen as the player to make a deal.

Many were saying exactly the same things about Doku last summer and Palmer in the summer of ‘23. ;-)
And Palmer has proved them correct. Outstanding first season at Chelsea (albeit hugely stat padded with penalties), has done precious little in the subsequent two seasons.

And yes n I'm aware he's had fitness issues. You'd still expect more from a player with the hype that surrounds him.

That’s similar to the complaints I read on other forums levelled against Foden: carried by better midfielders and now exposed for the last two seasons.
I think they’re all good players but changes in circumstances often hinder continued progression. In the coming seasons, I would not be surprised if we suddenly saw marked regression in players we thought were in their ascendancy.

Two league goals in two seasons. Has clearly wanted to leave for two summers now and theres a club willing to offer £50m+ for him. Even if he ends up being a success at Spurs it will always have been the right decision by the club to sell him this summer.

Yep! They desperate for him he is young with a lot of potential plus where is there another out and out right winger in Europe that young for 50m? Newcastle paid that for elonga! For me I wouldn’t take a penny less than £60m or tell them go find another winger

It will be the correct decision if the club has identified the right person to succeed him. As you mention, we’ve known for 15 months that both parties want to move on, so allowing him to leave now is fine, but not bringing in a superior replacement this summer would be irresponsible.

If, on the off chance, he becomes a world beater then fair play to Spurs and their coaching staff but that will be several years down the line

Sell now, a get a decent fee and take it from there
