I was there, open end freezing cold. I'm sure a bomb went off that day in London and as we were heading home it was all over the radio. Can't remember the score.Saturday 17th December 1983 - Mick McCarthy City debut at Cambridge United
Any blues at this one recall the day ?

Can I tell it Joan?I was there!
Told this story before but worth it again....
I have cousins in Cambridge and we used to go every Easter for a few days as kids. I had no idea where the Abbey Stadium was but I knew Cambridge City's ground was right in the centre as we passed it every time we went there.
So I am on a coach to the game and as we enter the city and head towards the centre, someone shouts out "there's the floodlights" and the driver headed for them.
I then did my best Eddie from Early Doors, informing the driver that the floodlights were City's ground, not the Abbey. Driver wouldn't have it. Eventually I left him to it, and said nothing as we passed the sign at the front of the ground welcoming visitors to Cambridge City FC....
We arrived quite late, just before kick off as a result of getting lost. Away coaches were parked on some wasteland and we had to leg it through this wasteland / rough wet field to be inside before kick off.
Those Blues with the nice clean trainers weren't happy!
