I hope I'm wrong about him but unlike Mangala I didn't see any redeeming factors in his game last season, he looks well below the standard we need.

There are better options out there that wouldn't cost that much if we can get rid.

Or he could have a blinding season and make me look like dick.

Thought I'd eulogised enough over my perceptions of his shortcomings... But here we go again,

He looked more sluggish around the pitch than Garcia, hardly my favourite of all time. I think much of this was to do with ponderous decision making, but Garcia at least only looked that way when on the ball.
Fernando didn't seem to know where to be or where to go, and for a player with a relatively small area to patrol and limited duties in this respect, this was a big concern for me.
When someone did come near him, he was easily turned again and again, and on the rare occasion that he did make it to the ball first, was seemingly brushed aside or simply made such a bizarre attempt to clear or win it that that attacker got clean through and he ended up completely out of the picture or on his backside.
I saw this time and again last year and for me the book is closed in similar fashion to when Souness watched the first ten minutes of George Weah's 'cousin's' debut for Southampton.

Garcia was slow, but had a footballing brain, and was getting up to speed, mentally at least, in England. Fernanado has yet to do that and detracts from the teams tempo as opposed to Ferdinho who ups it.

If we get all our targets this summer and he stayed for next season, i wouldn't be at all suprised if he goes in the January window. I just can't see him improving or getting many games in which to do so.

I have been slating him but to be fair he didn't have a bad game yesterday. Maybe there's hope for him?

Whilst I've never been Fernando's biggest fan, he could still play a key role in the squad next season. Play him as a DM in a midfield 3 and bring him on to protect a lead in tight games and we might see his worth.

He's definitely behind Yaya, Dinho and Delph in the pecking order though.

Think some people have made their mind up already and no matter how he plays, will always be shit.
I don't think he's that great, but i'd like to see if having a season under his belt, has improved him or not.
I'm certainly not going to judge him on any pre-season friendly, where ALL the players are not up to speed yet.

Agreed, Fernando is an ok squad player, but nothing more than that, simply not good enough.
With there being a squad tariff, every place is invaluable and I believe EVERY senior player should be there as primarily a first team player.

Squad players should be promising EDS types who split their playing time between high profile EDS games and lower/mid-level first team games. From that perspective I don't see where limited players like Fernando fit in, as it stands he's just taking up a valuable squad place.

Fernando is waste of space. no need to pay 100k per week for a squad player. play 4-2-3-1 formation and let some of EDS player playing beside Yaya, Fernandinho, Delph or Pogba (if we do get him). i'd like to see EDS player like Fofana, Evans or Bytyqi get their chance in the 1st team.

The bluemoan early season contender for boo boy of the season I suspect closely followed by Sagna, Nasri, Bony, Kolorov and Navas

Is that £100k a week confirmed? I'd be surprised if he was on that much to be honest.

I would love to be proven wrong prestonibbo - love to embrace the tiny spark of hope like in darker times when every new game started 0-0 and there was a chance that we might just turn up (or the opposition might not). He did have a couple of moments at the start of last year, but based upon what I then saw consistently, if it was down to me, the decision would have been made a long time ago.
