Zabaleta can fill in at left back whenever required has played there for us before. Prefer Zaba at left back to both Clichy and Kolarov. Of course even better at RB tho.
This sounds like something id do in FIFA. Sell kolarov and get someone in there that can play.

Really? So when he won games for us and made a big impact in most games especially Christmas period

He did do well in the strikers position :)

I think the other poster means Fernie played best in the midfield engine room role, Silva will be defined as an AM and Milner mostly as a RW

I watched every match and for every instance where I thought Milner played fairly well I also remember quite literally screaming my frustrations with his performance at my tele and being asked to calm down by the missus.

I agree that Silva and, to a lesser degree, Lampard influenced matches on a regular basis but Milner was the definition of hit or miss. I just think it is a bit inaccurate to think of him as "important" to us as a midfielder.

I am grateful for his contribution and wish him the best but he will not be missed like Silva will be, even though they play in somewhat different positions.

I also think Liverpool will soon find out why we chose not to play him centrally.

haha

We've got 2 left backs, neither are ideal, but Clichy has homegrown status so won't be going anywhere. Kolarov, for me, can go, however it doesn't look like we're viewing this as a priority at this stage, so he's likely going to stay until next summer. We probably need to address right back more than left back. Zabaleta is still a really strong option, but he needs to have his workload reduced as he's 30 now, and Sagna at 32 isn't the answer. I can see Sagna being moved on, rumours of Monaco and Galatasaray, and a younger right back coming in. Fabinho is the one we've been most linked with. we'll see. All of that means I just don't see a move for Alex Sandro being something we pursue.

I digress, though.

Do we have any posters that have watched Alex Sandro with enough frequency to give insight into his strengths and weaknesses?

FWIW ... a year ago, during the long wait for Mangala to finally sign, I watched maybe 2 dozen old Porto matches stretching back to Spring of 2012. Saw lots of Sandro in those vids. Don't remember believing he was any kind of hidden gem, but figured he'd end up in a bigger place eventually. Kinda thick-bodied, kinda rash - would be baffled if City is really really interested in this guy. Maybe he found something in his game over the past year tho. shrug

I'm hoping we'd look at Fabinho before this guy..I dont think there is much between Fabinho and Sandro talent wise, both have pace, are a threat going forward which would suit are style of play but Fabinho would seem to give us more options as he can also play a midfield role for us if needed....Hopefully the Sandro rumours are just to push the price up for Juve....and the more spending they do, the more likely they'll want to cash in on Pogba!;)

Sandro = LB
Fabinho = RB

True i think Milner was good , he had energy , he put in a shift but nothing magical coming out of James milner , that one away bayern game was his highlight where he was sublime but then again silva was magical that day and to add to that Milner is CM for a mid table club like Villa or Pool. nearly not incisive enough with his passing , nor does he have some insane long balls to warrant a midfield spot in a top team like city. For L'vpool maybe he'd be their best player considering the dippers don't really have much to compare him to other than well a certain jordan henderson.

Seen a decent bit of him, I watch Porto whenever I get the chance, bit of a second team. He's decent but nothing special, defends decently, attacks decently but not great at either. Anyone thinking he could come in and be an instant improvement would be disappointed, contributes nothing offensively compared to Kolarov and is about on a par defensively, a little better than Clichy going forward but not a patch on an on form Gael defensively. He's one of those players who has potential to improve though as most of his shortfalls are down to decision making.
