Rony Lopes

Gut feeling he'll get sold with a buy back clause of some description OR he'll sign a new deal and then get sent on a longer term loan (maybe two seasons). I think with the emergence of Manu Garcia and the signing of Patrick Roberts it's difficult to see where Rony will get games at City.

City are willing to let midfielder Rony Lopes go out on loan again, hopefully to a Premier League side. [Sunday People]

His contract expires at the end of next season. Can't see him being loaned out without an extension being signed and can't see him signing an extension without being part of our first team squad.

So...Rony stays. End of.

Manchester City could lose starlet Marcos Lopes if they fail to offer him reassurances about first team football at the club
  • Manchester City in danger of losing hot prospect Marcos 'Rony' Lopes
  • The 19-year-old's contract runs out at the end of next season
  • A number of clubs from Ligue 1 are keen to bring him back to France

The biggest disappointment of last season for me was the unholistic manner in which MP gave so little game time to young players - we cannot win trophies EVERY season but to not win anything and give so few opportunities to youngsters was something we will potentially pay for - hopefully this season will see a change in our mentality

Gutted if he goes. He's potentially top class. He's looked threatening and lively every time he's come on too. What the fuck are we playing at even countenancing this idea?

Lopes was one of the best performers in Ligue 1 last season, where he spent the campaign on loan at Lille. They are also keen on Lopes but it is unlikely he would return to the club.

The player had been hoping to return to City and become involved with the first-team squad but he holds reservations as to whether he will be handed sufficient opportunities by manager Manuel Pellegrini this season.

His contract at City expires at the end of next season and a new deal is still to be agreed. Lopes is desperate to play regular football, preferably at City, but he will be prepared to move on if City do not provide reassurances.

He is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January if City cannot agree a renewed deal this summer.

City are keen to retain him as he qualifies as a homegrown player and may also explore the possibility of loaning Lopes out once again if they can persuade him to sign a new deal.

he player, however, will only renew at City if the club provide strong signals that he will be involved regularly at first-team level in the near future. Lopes' first-choice is to stay at City but he would also be keen for an option for a permanent deal to be included within any loan proposition.

Lopes is widely rated as one of the best young players in Europe and he wants to play football week in, week out, even if that means leaving the club that he joined at the age of 15 from Benfica, when City beat off competition from Barcelona to sign him.

Fuck...Pellers.

Roberts, Garcia, Barker potentially ?

None of them are necessarily more promising than Lopes. In fact, Lopes is the only one who's actually proved he can be effective in the real world so far having done some very good things in a very mediocre Lille team. Barker, Roberts and Garcia would have failed to do better in that team.

Sodding him off now cos we have them three would be plain stupid when we don't know the level any of them will reach, especially considering he's the furthest advanced of the lot of them development wise. Oh and Garcia isn't even the same position.

Fair arguments. I think the issue is going to be game time. If Lopes is demanding regular first team football this season then at who's expense do we give it to him?

Navas. Nasri. Anyone - he should easily get 20 games/starts/sub appearances at very least. Small sacrifice of one experienced player for the greater good and all that.

Ahead of them as he is the better player. Garcia looks promising but plays deeper anyway and lopes is the only one that has showed he can do it for a first team. We would regret letting go of our 2nd/3rd brightest prospect, after denayer and maybe iheanacho.

Fair enough. I think it's unlikely that either Navas or Nasri will be shunted for Lopes although I could be wrong. Personally I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgment as to whether he is good enough to play regularly for our first team. He hasn't started very many pre season games, or even got many pre season minutes, which probably doesn't bode well for him.

Still it's definitely another stick to beat Txiki/Pellegrini/the club with if we do end up letting him go!

Lopes > Navas, Roberts, Barker, Garcia

He should be in the squad.

he's better than navas for me, but the other three you mentioned i think will end up being better. The problem for all of our youth at the minute is will they get enough games time. I just dont think pelle will give them enough chances.

I don't think that he proved at Lille that he was better than the players mentioned. He was up & down. At his best he was better than Navas, at his worst nowhere near as good. But he could possibly become a top player & should be given a chance. If he can't hack it we will soon find out. We don't have to start him in big games or at key moments, just ease him into the setup.

Daily Mail: City face a battle to keep Rony Lopes (19), out of contract next summer, with top French making enquiries over a permanent deal. Lopes has reservations as to whether he will be handed enough first team opportunities by Pellegrini this season.
