Home grown (etc) rules ?

No, you need at least 3 years at the club before you turn 21 to qualify as "club trained", Hart joined City in summer 2006, when he had already turned 19, so didn't manage to accrue 3 years before his 21st birthday.
Cheers, I thought he was he here at 18.

So all the youngsters count as U21 in the PL squad, and have no bearing on who we can purchase, only the CL where we currently don't have any spaces, and we also have Zuculini to include in the mix who is over 21, so will require a position in both squads (if not loaned out) ?

As I suspected. So what do you think then - you think City will go into the CL with two senior forwards and bring in another foreign player on top of KDB - or do you think it'll be KDB plus Kelechi ?

2 will probably be enough until January with Silva and Sterling in emergencies. Depends on incomings I'd say.

The Premier League rules are very similar to the Champion's League ones, the only difference being that there's no differentiation between association trained and club trained. You still have 17 "open slots" for anyone, and 8 homegrown slots, but the 8 homegrown slots can be filled with 8 players who were trained in England at any club, there doesn't need to be 4 trained specifically at City. This means Richard Wright can be included, it also means that Sterling doesn't need to be included this season (as he's under 21 but the "less than 2 years at City" requirement from the Champion's League squad isn't present). Zuculini will indeed need to be included in the 17, so we either sell Dzeko (as seems likely) and use the free spot for him, or else we sell Dzeko plus someone else (if we intend on adding De Bruyne), or we sell/loan Zuculini out. All our younger players, including Sterling and Iheanacho, are exempt from the 25 man Premier League squad, based on their age as at 1st January 2015, regardless of their nationality, where they were trained, or how long they've been at Manchester City.

Can't we just take Wright instead of Willy to the Champions League and Gunn as an U21. Wouldn't this give us another foreign spot?

No, we can't use the 4 places reserved for club-trained players and even though Wright is association trained we already have four of those so he would just take Willy's spot in the 17 "free" places.

It was worth bringing this subject up, as I think those who aren't as aware (me) are learning just how complicated it is.

The transfer forum experts (Flappers + FM, and FIFA players) still want us signing 3 or 4 more none HG players, even though we don't have the spaces.

i suspect we would like pogba and KDB and that they are expected to replace dzeko and jovetic. In the event that one doesn't come and we don't sign another top player in their place we will include kelechi in the squad.

I suspect for now sterling will be 3rd striker anyway not kelechi and if he gets games in the prem and domestic cups that will keep him happy for now.

the good thing is loans count and I think we will more an more see deals like Unal or Nwakali where players will have 2 or 3 years at City without going near the EDS and then the best will come back to fill slots the ones not so good will be sold for a profit.

At present we have 15 foreign (Willy, Mangala, Sagna, Demi, Kolarov, Kompany, Zaba, Fernandinho, Fernando, Nasri, Navas, Silva, Yaya, Aguero & Bony) so that leaves us 2 free spots.

We really should be looking at an exit strategy for Sagna, Willy, Navas, Fernando...

I'm all for squad players but you would be better off with Trippier, Westwood, Barton(lol) and Walcott than average foreign players taking up one of the free spots..

At least if you buy average HG players you can back fill the free spots with world class forigh tae talent..

Sorry for the stupid question....just trying to get my head round this.....whats stopping us signing De Bruyne and work out a loan deal for a guy like Zuculini before the window shuts? As it would be a loan deal we wouldnt have to worry about the signing impacting on Zuculini's value....is there a closing date where all players need to be under the final 25 man squad? thanks

If we bring in another non HG player I can still see one of Fernando, Fernandinho, Navas or Nasri going

You all seem to be under the impression that there will be no more departures after Joveric & Dzeko leave.

I'm not sure about that at all.For example if all goes well and KDB rocks up, Nasri or Navas might decide they don't want to hang around and there are plenty of rumours about Nasri to Juventus (if Pogba comes???).

Would much rather navas go over nasri ...*holds back navas rant*

Nasri still proves to be a match winner at times and watching him bang in the breakthrough goal in Rome to help send us through to the last 16 after everyone had written us off was something special. However i cant see pellegrini letting navas go especially with our shortage of out-and-out wingers.

Kelechi i think will make the 17 man squad, i cant see us going into champs league with just 2 strikers plus sterling. This leaves us one space providing we sell dzeko unless we shift more players. IMO fernando should be shifted and De bruyne & Pogba brought in.

I agree. I like Navas but what he brings to the side both Sterling and Kelechi now also bring to the side (pace, direct running, etc). Nasri is an all round better footballer and would be the one I would keep.

Having said that someone on the forum who knows Navas has already said that he's really happy in Manchester, Pellegrini loves him, and he's going nowhere this summer.

Nothing is stopping us. We can even sign De Bruyne and use Zuculini for the August games without registering him in the squad as we don't have to submit our final squad of 25 to either the Premier League or UEFA until the 3rd of September. I doubt Zuculini is causing the hold up with the De Bruyne move to be honest, I think we're just trying to pick out the right PL Loan for him (ie a team with a shortage of midfield players where he's more likely to (a) get game time and (b) be an important player to his team as Lopes and Denayer were last season).
