How to dress for a job interview?

Suit & tie always - failing that Bernie Clifton style Ostrich suit, if the interviews going badly let the Ostrich attack & then gallop off

It will never count against you for wearing a suit and tie. It will if you don't.

You wouldn't even get through the door at my place without a suit and tie.

Some companies are casual, some are not.

So a full suit and tie is the ONLY safe option.
I agree there. Just dress appropriately though. If you're applying for a estate agent role you need a shitload of hair gel, big fuck off Harry Hill collars and a flash, expensive, tasteless suit.

If you're going for a parts mechanic job a simple shirt, trousers and good shoes

Remember Al Bundy?
"If your shoes look like shit, you look like shit"

If it's a more formal company/organisation, shirt and tie (top button need not be fastened if uncomfortable, as the tie knot can easily mask this). If you're not sure of the attire worn by the staff, overdressed rather than under-dressed is the safest bet, but avoid tuxedo or bolero jacket.

Suit, shirt and tie 100%. It won't get you the job but first impressions can certainly lose you the job.

You need to do something different to make that first impression. For example, if all the other candidates have their flies done up then simply undo yours. You could get your knob out for that desired effect.
I think the OP wants to make an impression.

Maintain piercing eye contact throughout if the interviewer is of the opposite sex, breathe audibly and make 'subtle' glances at cleavage whilst licking lips.

That will show you are interested in what the person is saying and you are alert

as long as the tie isn't loose. that just looks scruffy
