I've Ditched Sky - What Are My Options?

Just seen this!

Fellas, my mum has just cancelled Sky and we have been given a termination date. Could I sign up again in my own name using that deal?
Will be same address but we have a different surname if that matters.

Sky will be ringing your Mum soon to persuade her to stay.
Does that deal include chumps league matches?

EDIT Just read link and the deal is for new customers only and i'd say it's your address that's the determining factor in that.

I'm trying to weigh up which would be better and need some help. What do you guys reckon is the best option an Openbox with "Gift" or an Android box with Kodi. I've used Kodi with Vdubt25 addon on my computer but it sometimes suffers from buffering and I'm on 100mb. Any advice would be helpful.

With any streaming device there is always the chance of buffering , I've got myself a T8 from @droidstcks and have ditched Sky Sports and movies , it's the best box I've had .

How can your address be your determining factor. People are moving in and out of houses all the time. You will be classed as a new customer. Me and the other have the sky in alternate names every year.

I got an openbox installed today but there was no mention of any gift? Assuming I just need to ring Sky now to get onto lowest available tariffs?

I wouldn't be ringing sky in this instance mate. I would be wary of ebay for gifts as they have a reputation for being oversubscribed and disappear after about 3 months. Join one of the specialist forums and take it from there.
I've got a Sky satellite dish but no TV aerial. Mrs wants to watch live TV rather than streaming via Kodi. Any alternatives to FreeSat that'll give me a decent number of channels?

Do the V8S boxes use internet rather than tuners?
No they are satellite boxes which use the internet to encrypt the encrypted channels. Better off getting an enigma 2 box which will give you full 7 day epg, sorted channels, and pause, record etc. Dearer box but definetely worth it.

Or you could get one of these and search the skies!!

Something like this?http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/261922177645

What are the benefits of this over FreeSat? Would this give me any additional channels?

As it is it won't give you the extra channels. You need to install an image on it, blackhole or open vix or whatever, then you need a sub off someone and install it on the box. All a bit complicated if you are not familiar with these thing. Just go down your local and ask the barman who's the man to speak to about these matters? I'm sure he'll be able to point you in the right direction.

I've just told virgin to do one. I'll keep the broadband when they come ringing begging me to stay and hopefully get that cheaper too.

I already have kodi on my tablet but I find it so disorienting trawling through channels for a football stream I've gone back to paying news-source £7 for 2 months.
Is there an easy way to navigate it?

So I'm going to do some research on the boxes on this thread, basically with the full sky subscription with straight forward channel navigation.even if it means getting a dish.

What's the difference between this Openbox and the boxes people are recommending on the XBMC/KODI thread?

Openbox/libertbox are decent, had mine since May and had no issues with it, best thing I ever bought and I can help anyone out of they need anything!!

Zgemma is what I'll upgrade to when I can be arsed
