Where do people think we sit in terms of club football and the top squads in the world?

Take Ronaldo and Messi out of Madrid and Barca then ...... But guess same could be said about removing Aguero from our side

We're still behind the big 3, but not as much as we used to be.

We've pulled away from the pack below those three, like PSG have. Of course just having a strong squad isn't enough. I think we are vulnerable against system teams like Atletico.

I actually think our squad is probably better than all but possibly Chelsea and Bayern. Our first 11 is probably fourth to barca, real and Bayern but not far away from being as good and with sterling and de bruyne we are so much closer to those sides.

Let's not get to ahead of ourselves. On paper, we've played some good teams, dominated each game. We're yet to enter September, which will be the test for us. I'd say we're currently 4th/5th on paper, but the talking happens on the pitch. I hope we don't bottle the champions league again this year, it's about time we silenced some critics. We've got all the tools possible for it this season, hopefully pellegrini has learnt from previous seasons.

We are in the top 5.
Someone earlier in the thread (page 1) put United on a par with Arsenal. I can't for the life of me see how anyone could seriously think that.

On paper we're not far behind madrid, barce and bayern but in reality we're still some way behind as we've done nothing in europe. Hopefully we'll close that gap this season.

Defintiely in the top 8, best in the league by a mile, I'd be shocked if you don't win a couple of medals. Going forwards the team looks amazing watching them or just looking at the team sheet!!

A step below Madrid or Barca of course, but I think we could hold our with Bayern better than most critics think. This may be our best chance to ever win the CL. Chelsea and the Rags are in for down years. If we don't do it now then when?

Top 6. I can only think of 5 squads stronger than ours.

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Bayern Munich
Paris Saint-Germain
Chelsea

Our squad should be good enough to get to the QF of the CL.

We have the strongest squad , but not the best XI , real , bayern , barca all have better first elevens , but our 20 odd man squad is the best in the world.

Probably this. When you look at Barca and Madrid benches I wouldn't swap them for ours.

Its interesting that we probably all think we are 4-6th yet when the CL draw was made we probably all thought it would be a tough group.

We should expect to finish top of our group and it's a definite possibility to put our marker down. We haven't got one of the big three, I expect chavs fans would expect to win our group so should we.

I would say now

Tier 1 Barcelona, Madrid

Tier 2 Bayern, US, Chelsea, PSG

Tier 3 Juventus, Athletico,

Tier 4 Arsenal, United, Dortmund, Porto

I'd say this:

Tier 1 Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern (genuine CL contenders)

Tier 2 City, Chelsea, Atletico, PSG

Tier 3 Juventus, Sevilla, Valencia

Tier 4 Arsenal, Dortmund, Benfica, Porto

I genuinely think we are one world class CM (and maybe a good defensive LB) away from being to able to say that we are genuine CL contenders. I think we'll finish in the semi's or the quarters depending on the draw. When playing 4-2-3-1, a Pogba type signing, to substitute for Yaya's vulnerability in a midfield 2 in Europe, would go a long way to protect the defence in tight games. We'll give it a real good go in the CL this season but I think we'll fall just short of the final. The 2016-2017 season though, depending on the signings made this time next year, might be a different story altogether. We could honestly go and win it. We are not that far away at all, we just have to prove it on the pitch. It really is exciting times for our club!

For me this is a very difficult thing. First, I admit I can't view our club in a very realistic fashion. I'll always put them ahead.

Another reason I have difficulty is that when we have played Bayern and Barca the last couple years, I think we are pretty much on part with Bayern. The Barca matches show just how different they play than the PL sides. You touch any of their attacking players and they go down. There is never an attempt by them to stay up and press forward. What has hurt us a lot is that at the start of the matches we rack up a ton of fouls and then our team has a hard time surviving without yellow cards flying left and right. I realize it is part of their style, so from that end, I understand, however part of our style is to be physical. For some reason the Champions League officials always seem to go against physicality. When PL officials are used for the other matches, they let them play a lot more. I'd like to see the records of the various leagues with PL officials versus their records with other officials. It may show that there is a difference. One thing that I like when I watch Real play is that they aren't a bunch of divers. So while I do think that I would rate them above ours mainly due to results and that they have a team filled with world class players, I do think it would be a very entertaining matchup.

The draw is always something we will have to fight through. With any luck this year, we win our group and won't have to face PSG, Real, Barca, or Bayern in the knockout stages. Then we have advanced to a point that our team should be given a better result. If we finish 2nd in group, we are going to face the same things we have the past two years. Does anybody really think that Juve was the 2nd best team in Europe last year? I don't. But they did what they had to do in order to make the finals.

Gut feeling is fourth but we've not yet proved we're better than PSG or Atletico.

I think we've closed the gap a fair bit on the top 3 with the signings but really it would still be a bit of a fluke if we won the CL this season. It's coming though.
