anyone know the estimated cost of a catalytic converter for 2009 Ford Focus TDCI 1.6?

Ouch £406 plus fitting
I am currently in the very pleasant situation of having NO car having flogged the Disco to WeBuyAnyCar last week - it is amazing how de-stressing it is!

EDIT - can you change your username as mine is now all wrong :-(

By Jove, who'd have thought to Google it?
Google also says £55+VAT for the cat converter, and it's a half hour job, so less than £100 to fit. Other places on Google state £700+ to fix. Hence I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone has any personal experience.

Knock out the inside of the cat and drive it normally until you can afford to get it done. It's called a street decat. Chances of getting caught are nil.

Mine also has a DPF and never had a problem with it. However general motoring forums usually have people moaning about DPFs.
But a DPF doesn't mean the end of cats altogether. From theaa.com:
The most commonly fitted type of DPF has an integrated oxidising catalytic converter and is located very close to the engine where exhaust gases will still be hot.

Slightly seperately, I could do with a recommendation of a trustworthy garage for a cambelt replacement on the mrs' clio, been quoted £300 by a halfrauds, and a smaller place. (smaller independent said it would only be £150ish if it werent 16v....)
