Strength in Depth Myth

take ramos , iniesta , busquets , messi , suarez out of Barca's side , and they would struggle against a top 6 spanish team never mind top 6 premiership , Harry Redknapp ? how does he know what a good squad is , hes never won f*ck all , and the mess he made at QPR confirms it .

Give me a break. We probably have the best squad the PL has seen thus far.

We've had the best squad for the last 4 or so years. We have never had the best manager tho, not even close.

We do have backup in every position but probably only have 2 world class players, Silva and Aguero. 2 years ago I would have added Zabaleta, Kompany and Toure to that list but Zaba and Yaya are both on the decline which is only natural as they are both in their 30's and on the evidence of last season Vinny is probably coming towards the end of his peak. In my opinion, the areas we desperately need to strengthen next summer are GK, LB, CM and possibly a top class striker to provide competition for Sergio. Along with Chelsea we have the strongest squad in the league and I think we will have enough to win it but I agree that our squad is overrated probably due to the inflated transfer fees we pay.
Fair points made with not enough pressure on CD as well when a fit and firing VK is available.

We also don't have a top class manager or a manager who knows how to get the best out of the team in terms of achieving best outcomes in games when they are presented to us.

The set up , mindset and tactics for the West Ham , Spurs and Juventus games were poor.

I hope MP has learnt something from these games on where he needs to improve and how to go about it.

You cannot afford to blow leads and come away with nothing too often in a season or come out starting in a slumber as we have on three occasions already in just 9 games.

Do it a couple more times and the season could be gone because we will lose games of football to teams that are better than us on the say as well which Juventus and West Ham were not.

That's it. The OP has made up my mind......I've had enough of this place, for the while anyway. See you all soon....ish.

our second string eleven is worse than our first choice? fucking hell mate, that's some revelation
It's not a case of it just being worse, worse I would understand and expect.

IMO (it's just an opinion!), the drop of from 1st choices to 2nd/3rd choices is absolutely massive and not helped by the fact some of them don't look particularly arsed that they are 2nd and 3rd choices.

Take Silva, Kompany, Aguero, Hart and Toure out of the team and Man City are ordinary.

Not my words, the sage that is Glenn Hoddle.

A fucking buffoon. Take Messi, Suarez, Iniesta, Neymar and Pique out and Barcelona are ordinary.

See what I did there, Glenn?

Laughable when pundits say things like "Oh this team is weaker and playing poorly because they're missing x, y & z" It's a bit different if we were missing Nasri or Navas, even if we just missed 1 of Kompany/Silva/Hart but to miss all 3 at the same time will be a rarity this season anyway.

It was like Gullit on MOTD saying we have zero excuses because "The money they've spent" I would have loved to see his view on the matter if Chelsea lost in such a manner without Courtois, Fabregas and Hazard (Some would say Costa but he's fucking dreadful)

Yep and the presenter lap it up and doesn't respond with take the 5/6 best players out of any team plus have 2 decisions not go your way your lucky to lose 4-1

Ramos has never been in Barca's side.

Our squad is the strongest in the league. Only United's is comparable in terms of depth.

Hoddle became increasingly emboldened with his sweeping statements as the game wore on.

The initial 40 minutes were splattered with his obvious Spurs bias, how our defenders were playing too high (bullshit) and we were still there for the taking, despite bossing proceedings and chances.

As the offside goals changed the complexion, and as we chased a hopeless cause, he felt fully vindicated in allowing his usual piss and vinegar about anything concerning City to then spill over.

He'll use the game to no doubt inform the viewing public who lap that shit up on Wednesday.

It's like a little drinking men's club. They know jack shit about football. They are revisionist wankers who had us finishing out of the top four at the beginning of the season and then dubbed us title winners after just five games.

It's the reason why the likes of him and Redknapp are sat on a sofa, they are the 'supposed' next best thing for an industry so bloated by the money, they need to tear the arse out of every meaningless cough and splutter, stating opinion as fact.

A washing machine full of absolute frauds and johnny-come-lately fanboys who can't decipher between true knowledge and hyperbole.

If anyone wants to truly appreciate the standard of footballing analysis these days, look no further than Fletcher and Savage, prior to kick-off.

A couple of fortysomethings dressed like a couple of boy-band wannabe 20-year-olds, resplendent in matching waistcoats, skinny jeans and winkle-pickers.

Embarrassing shit.

Abso-fucking-lutely TH. His comment about KDB not being worth paying to see was utterly pitiful. What a Grade A cock.

We do have depth in some aspects but when we have certain players missing our back up players don't excel at the same style of football - yet as a team we still try and play the same way.

Navas, Bony and Nasri totally different to Aguero, Silva and Sterling/KDB.

Fernando is different to Fernandinho. Nobody is at all similar to Yaya.

Clichy and Kolarov couldn't be any more different. Kompany and Mangala as a pairing are vastly different to MDM and Otamendi.

And Willy is totally different to Hart.

That would all be fine if we adapted our game. But we don't. At 2-1 down on Saturday we went chasing the game like absolute maniacs, leaving ridiculous amounts of space at the back. You can be aggressive at the back of your are Mangala and Kompany because you have the physicality to get out of jail. If you're Otamendi and Demi, you can't afford to be as rash.

I do also think that any other top team would struggle if their entire spine was injured. It's not as if Spurs are a poor side.

We are pretty dumb as a team at times though. Certain players make very bad decisions. 4 of the back 5 were making them on a consistent basis on Saturday and that's why we shipped 4 goals

as i watched the game today i couldnt help thinking back to 2011/12 season (and even the one before) and knowing that the likes of Hart, Kompany, Clichy, Zabba, Ya Ya, Nasri, Silva, De Jong, Milner, Dzeko and Aguero would line up;

as we approach 2016, our best current XI looks very similar in many ways;

is this bcos those players are top quality?

or have we failed to replace and adapt properly?

not that we're doing badly, still competing on 4 fronts!
