Injuries.

Our manager has no say in the matter, if vinny says he's fit that's good enough for me.
Easy for me. If our medical staff say he isn't 100%, but he then plays for his country and comes back unfit to play, then donate all his wages to charity until such time as he's fit again. Best solution all round.

Considering they only have to beat Andorra to secure qualification I'd say so, yes.

Like I said i'll trust our captain

Maybe mate, but at the end of the day vinny knows if he's fit or not.

I suspect that VK has a stronger loyalty to Belgium than he does to City - in fact, if I'm not mistaken there has been a thread on that point in the past in this board. So, even if he's not fully fit, if Willmotts asks him to play, on the pretext that the game is 'crucial' etc, he probably will. City have had a number of 'crucial' games over recent weeks where we could have done with him, but, guess what, he wasn't fit. VK's loyalties are entirely his own business, but personally, the fate of Belgium (or any national team for that matter, including England) isn't my concern, whereas the fate of City is. So, if he plays and aggravates the calf, thus missing more 'crucial' games, including the Derby, having not played for his club for weeks, I think it is seriously short changing the fans.

Whilst I agree with your overall point that if he isn't 100% he simply shouldn't play, they will qualify with or without him playing & that's almost a guarantee, I would disagree with you claiming his loyalties aren't strong with City, would be hard pushed to name another player from our squad with more passion about our club than this guy.

I'm not suggesting that his loyalty to City isn't strong, I'm suggesting that his loyalties to Belgium are stronger.

Sky are always trying to stir up trouble for us. As I understand it, when he's away on international duty, the club cant "give him orders not to play", its the country's medical staff's decision.

He is our dedicated club captain, a position he is proud of and takes very seriously and IMO we should trust him. I don't believe we should be creating unnecessary tension and conflict like Mancini did.

In his biography about Pep, Ballague tells how Pep was in a tricky position when he started management. Barca initially refused Messi permission to go to the Bejing Olympics, (there was even a dispute at a tribunal, between club and country), which Barca won. Pep decided to allow Messi to go to the Olympics. Pep's appreciation of the players position was a building block in the strong trust relationship which was so critical to Barca's success.

Don't you think that it was Kompany creating the tension and conflict by going against the wishes of his club manager? Just as it will be if he goes against Pellegrini's wishes and plays against Andorra. I mean, Andorra FFS! He could quite legitimately ask Wilmots to rest him, citing lack of match fitness if nothing else.

Pellegrini clearly feels that if City had a game coming up in the next few days he wouldn't be risking Kompany so why should he be playing for Belgium?

I don't think anyone is suggesting he will play against Andorra in the first qualifier. There have been rumours he may be fit enough for the second game against Israel? Either way I just think Sky are stirring and some of our fans are over reacting. Trust Vinny and respect he has a legitimate right to play for his country if he is fit.

It would only be over-reaction if Vinny didn't have "previous" for this. He's missed 4 games for City and if Pellegrini has asked him not to play and risk worsening the injury he should respect his manager's wishes in my view.

Very true.

The fans and his paymasters.

So do our physios. The difference is Kompany may try to play when he ISN'T fit because he is a competitor. That is why you don't let players make these decisions.

We are finally just getting fully fit after the last international break.... and now Vinnie might risk further injury? Friggin great!

It'd be extremely frustrating if Kompany risked injury playing for Belgium next week but I can't really get worked up about it until it actually happens. At the moment it's just a hypothetical situation. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

My thoughts exactly. He may just be with the squad as he is the captain.

I'm going to take Pellegrini at his word on this. He says Kompany is going with Belgium more for moral support than anything else.
If he does end up playing any minutes then it's a bit disappointing tbh. I love the man but it'd be a bit of a piss take after his lay off.

I think this is a likely scenario. I'd be staggered if he was to play, but I'm sure City will have made their feelings known about this.
I'd be staggered if he played when carrying an injury. But if he plays, the likelihood is that Kompany and the medics think he has recovered.

I know it's a big issue, but we can't possibly guess know he's still injured especially and what news we have suggests he's close to playing. Vertonghen says he's training and feeling good. He was also close to playing at Spurs but felt it in the warm up.

After all the problems Vinny has had, he'd not going to be stupid with this. He's a professional footballer.
