David White David White David White, David White David White David Whiiiiiite. Oh for the days when we were shite Lol.

Sad to hear this though.

I agree it's sad to hear of his current plight. He gave me a lot of enjoyment stood watching from the Kippax.

I'll never forget the decent team he played in 1991.

That 1991 Squad was solid, could mix it, and in White had pace to burn, plus Paul Lake.

Coton
Ranson
Curle
Hendry
Pointon
Megson
Reid (player manager)
Flitcroft
Lake
Quinn
White
Dibble
Hill
Vonk
Redmond
Brennan
Hughes
Lomas
McMahon
Simpson
Allen
Beckford
Heath
Sheron
Mike

I must have missed some, I remember McMahon being awesome against Liverpool at home and we won the game 2-1 with White scoring a "Geoff Hurst esq" style goal off the underside of the crossbar.

I hope the club can give him a job if he needs it.

McMahon never played in that game. Didn't sign until half way through the season

Yep I'm wrong, I could have sworn on the bible that he was in our team that day, he was'nt, in fact he played for Liverpool!! I couldn't remember them getting a penalty either.

I'm just getting old lol

Found this 10 minute hightlights of the game though well worth a watch if you want a trip down memory lane:

A few things stick out from that.

First of all, has there been a slower midfield in City's history than one that included Megson, Brennan and Reid? Secondly, that was Tony Coton at the absolute peak of his powers; Thirdly, 37,000? Are you having a laugh?

That was White at his most effective too. His career petered out once he got past 25, but whilst he was young, confident and fast he was a very useful player.

Funnily enough when my mate in Singapore sent me the link to the story, this was the first game that popped into my head. I'm pretty sure it was the first time I'd ever seen us beat Liverpool. And whilst a lot of nostalgic rubbish is written about the atmosphere at Maine Road, the Etihad has definitely never recreated anything like the Kippax was that night. Finally good point on TC, he was majestic for a couple of seasons.

Looks like he has crashed it on purpose, judging by those final numbers?

Turnover was down from £12m to just over £5m. The profits before tax were still over £250k (not too shabby especially if he's had his dividends out)

Worst miss I ever saw in a live City game was White missing an open goal at Carrow Road against Norwich. He was stood on the actual goal line but still contrived to miss the ball completely.

Think game ended 0-0?

I was also there at Anfield when he scored twice to bring us level. Crazy lobbed effort from the by-line.

Was also in the Stretford Paddock with loads of blues the night he really should have ended our long wait for a win there. He earned the penalty for Curle and then fluffed his a volley from three yards with goal at his mercy. Think his son Sam was also born that day and would have been the perfect story for him.

Bruce trying to keep up with White for that penalty was like watching a Blackpool Beach beast of burden trying to stay in touching distance of Shergar.

David White was my favourite player as a kid. I went to this "Soccer School" thing when i was about ten and White and Ian Brightwell were there running it and they got us into five a-side and Brightwell was on my team and White was on the other and i tackled White and passed it to Brightwell who scored...was proper buzzing!

Met Ian Brightwell a few years ago in the gym, he was laying a new squash court down and said that's what he does now - the laminate type flooring for indoor courts.

Ah right.

I always remember John Arne Riise being declared bankrupt while still playing for the dippers, how the fuck does that work?........or have I got that wrong as well?,sure he was still playing.
Same as David James now working in punditry for BT Sport, hardly be accused of not having a pot to piss in.

That's primarily because since 2004 someone's pension funds doesn't comprise part of their bankrupt's estate, unless they've behaved fraudulently. It's the primary reason why bankruptcies are so de rigueur among recently retired footballers, as they usually have significant funds in their pension which they can get at from (iirc) the age of 35 (earlier if their careers are cut short by injury). It's a relatively easy, cost effective and painless (for them) way of realigning their ingoings and outgoings once the big bucks stop rolling in.

By the way that Liverpool game was something else - incredible night and atmosphere. I just spotted my 15 year old self on the kippax.

Just thinking that there would have been 6000 scousers on the platt lane - 10,000 in the maine stand and 8500 in the North stand - that adds upto 24,000. So there were only 13,000 in the Kippax that night!! More like 20,000+.

Would have been at least 44,000 at that game.

.

The company went under due to red tape - the government changed the rules to make it very difficult to dispose of waste material. The company was in profit and had business lined up, they just didn't have the authority to dispose of it - as in the original MEN article when they went bust

His company supplied my place of works in SALFORD with skips, I did`nt ever meet D.White in the flesh, but I do know he employed some right angry nasty looking MCFC `tattoo`d` City fans to drive his wagons, loved talking to them. Forgive me if i`m wrong but I have a faded memory of being in the Scoreboard paddock at old shithole and David White running along the goal line after winning a corner gesticulating with his arms facing us Blues and imploring us to `COME ON` ...
