Why So Blue?

Yes but we only scored 2 goals.

2 goals from 25 shots (whether they were 'chances' is another story) is utterly depressing and again proves my point about us needing to learn and adapt.

That statistic tells me we're not. If it tells you or anyone else something else best of luck to you.

Look at the Juve game - they had a mere handful of chances yet took 2 of them and won the game.

That's besides the point, your original point was if Glabach had scored half their shots they'd have beaten us comprehensively, I was just pointing out that we'd 25 shots so by the same token we'd have scored 12.

This wasn't anything to do with us putting 3 in the centre and gaining more control of the ball / game then?

It was a balance thing, Zabas positional sense last night was the worse I could remember it being, he was literally 10'yards ahead of the back line everytime we were attacked, he wasn't fit, that was clear...

This idea of yaya being a scapegoat is ridiculous, he simply can't play in a midfield 2 in Europe. At present we do the tactics for the opposition, it's not rocket science!!!

It's not beside the point, if anything it's the point.

What I'm saying, and your statistics back this up, is we are allowing far to many shots on our goal and also not taking anywhere near enough of our own chances.

Going back to my original point, the fact this is still happening, several years down the line, is proof we are simply not learning and not adapting.

Could you be a gent and explain this to the blind of Bluemoon please mate? I'm losing the will to live here.

Spending some time reading this forum this morning I'm staggered by the negativity about last night. I realise that it wasn't our best performance but equally we won, and taking into account the result that Juve got, the win last night no matter how we got it is huge.

I keep reading that we should be worried about the rags as well. Why? What is it in their form that is much more impressive than ours? Which players have they got who are better than ours? Their manager a better manager than ours?

And all the hanging our own players out to dry, slagging off all and sundry for being shit/naive/not good enough. Some people on here seem intent to slag anything and everything off at every opportunity. Makes the forum a fucking terrible place.

I'm with you and hate the negativity on here of late about anything and everything but the performance last night was crap and even I couldn't help but have a little moan

That said, how fucking good is KdB!?

Wow is all I can say.

For those struggling to see why Toure is a defensive liability have a look at the highlights on the OS for a couple of pointers.

16:14 - Marking fresh fucking air during a very dangerously positioned free kick rather than making an opponent.

29:23 - Pathetic attempt at a 'tackle' then just saunters back rather than tracking back into our box to defend our goal.

Legendary going forward but defensively he may as well not be on the pitch.

That a this level is never ever going to bring success.

It was a great result, but the performance was poor and given the performance, there's a natural adjustment of expectations following the 5-1 Bournemouth win which made it look like the absences weren't having an effect.

His time is up. When we have the ball as we do so much of the time, it's OK, but play a decent team who can keep the ball and its like playing with 10 men.

It's not the blind of Bluemoon who need it explaining to them as they don't pick the team on match days and don't coach the team. And i'm fairly sure that whilst you may think you know best, it's not particularly controversial if others prefer to back the highly paid professionals who do actually get to pick the team.

Well if we're guilty of that then we shouldn't have a problem getting out of this group in first looking at the ratios the other teams have had against us.

And to put it into context he had a significant role in both of the goals we scored. Lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater

Most of us bar maybe stoned rose think yaya is worth his place in the team in the big games but not as part of a midfield two like last night
Its how you fit him in further forward that is the debate
For last nights two goals he was brilliant in setting them up and we don't want to lose that while he still has that ability

I ain't a Navas hater,but shone last night ? I don't think so

A few mazy runs but pretty poor crossing AGAIN
Sorry mate that is absolute garbage.
It certainly is, and coming from someone who criticises Navas, particularly his crossing, I thought he was excellent last night, and he put a number of great crosses over, unfortunately the main two who should have been getting on the end of them didn't. Navas had pretty much his best game for us last night, the only thing missing was a goal, and he looked much more of a threat at that too than he has recently.

Me suggesting he's a defensive liability and that translating to me not thinking he's worth his place in the team is some leap of logic mate.

I've stated he doesn't work in a midfield 2. I've pointed out clear reasons, based around his lack of defensive input (with video evidence) for this.

I'd definitely play him a central 3 with the Ferns. No doubt about that and I don't know what you've read in my posts that would make you think otherwise.

You can't have it both ways.

Your original point about chances/shots on target (you can't do it for one team and not the other), was that we could have been embarrassed if they'd taken half of them (Gladbach 16/6 City 25/6, City 16/6, Sevilla 12/2), I said the stats didn't back you up, they don't, as "half" (your figure), produces either 8-12, or 3-3, and 8-6 or 3-1, so 3 wins and a draw, and no defeats.

Its all very simplistic (pointless) of course, but the stats on chances or shots on target, don't back up your statement, that we could have been beaten embarrassingly if either team had taken half their chances, unless we're given the same statement, and equally should have taken half ours.

You simply don't understand my point so let's just move on mate.

We must be doing a hell of a lot right to be in the position we are, let's not forget that. We do need to see more cohesion at the back, as we're making hard work of what should be routine defending, and consequently relying on a few pieces of individual brilliance to ensure the win against the better sides.

Qualification in CL and staying at the top of the PL are our immediate targets and there's certainly no need to panic. Winning games whilst playing below par is a hallmark of a side that's strong in character, so there's plenty to be optimistic about.
