When was the last time you heard a rival fan saying this as an insult? And does it even bother you anymore? Did it start when Joey Barton said it?.. Are we now a 'massive club' anyway so it doesnt matter?

Haha, strange one.

For god sake, read my other posts!!! How does this post make me a rag? I heard a lad in work say it and it made me laugh, as its so ridiculous. Get off ya high horses -.-

Wait, that was supposed to be an insult? I always thought it was a compliment whenever anyone said it, no wonder they looked confused when i thanked them, oops.

Got to laugh at the boys when they're being interviewed always try and squeeze a "Massive" something or other in there. (Anyone else noticed?)
Water - Duck - Back. The scum forget our own in(s)ane ability to laugh at ourselves - long may it continue too - the self righteous cunts!

Never bothered me in the slightest, i've never taken it as an insult, it's a feeble attempt. The City fans that refuse to use the word massive in general football conversation and claim anyone that does is a rag probably annoy me more.

So you are a City fan then.
How long have you been a blue?

"Biggest floodlights in the football league"
Yeah, it started with "thank you Mr Barton"
2004, League cup game versus Arsenal, i was 13, Robbie fowler scored a freekick and fell on his arse as he struck it

You never hear it at all these days. The truth is we always were a massive club, one of the ten genuine giants of English football on whatever metric you care to choose, but like Newcastle, Sunderland and Villa of today we were under achieving. The deluded rags convinced themselves that we were no bigger than a Stoke or a West Brom because of our then lack of current success (being glory hunters that's all they could relate to) and thought that it would be that way forever. They were wrong. The current rag obsessions are attendances and turnover which again are ludicrous because we're currently in the top three in the country for both. No real surprise there ... we are a massive club who is currently successful unlike the other three massive clubs I named earlier.I remember that arrogant, piss stained, old cnut Fergiescum calling Newcastle "a wee club from the North East" ... and they all wonder why the rest of football despises them.

There seems to be some erroneous attribution to Joey Barton for the genesis of this phrase.

It was, in fact the united fanzine 'Red Issue' in the late nineties who picked up on this description being used by any player who signed for the City as we simultaneously tumbled down the leagues. I think they got especially excited when Terry Cooke said it when signing from united. Red Issue, like most united fans at the time, took great delight in mocking us at every available opportunity. They used the term on the basis that we weren't, and never would be, a massive club. It's the same reason they displayed that reprehensible banner. They thought they'd be able to deride us with impunity ad infinitum.

As we pass them on the outside lane, we should all reflect upon this and smile to ourselves as we then look at them in the rear view mirror.

I think the word you're looking for is Passive NOT Massive when describing City.

As most of us Blues couldn't give a fuck what Rags say, and do you ever watch Press Conferences with City?
We often brush aside the negative bollocks they throw out
