The Boxing thread

I find the lightweight division totally fucked up. British level a lot of fighters are 1 fight away from a World title. Derry Mathews is the interim WBA Champion while Anthony Crolla fights for the WBA title. I am surprised neither of the 2 have been moved into the WBA Super Champion mode yet there making boxing a shambles 1 title should be enough in my opinion. Then you will have the likes of Luke Campbell and Kevin Mitchell not too far off fighting for a World title.

Anyone planning on Andy Lee v Billy Joe Saunders at the Arena? I would if I could double it up with a home match but we've got Arsenal away on the Monday and that takes preference here.

Rather stick pins in my penis than watch boxing at that time on mad Friday. Will be carnage.

I just watched the fight on Youtube, He is rather good, the accuracy of his punches was excellent. It will be good to see him up against top class opponents.

The bill if they get good fights for Turbo , Smith and Paul Butler too it will be the makings of a great card before Xmas.

I notice Quigg saying a Frampton fight is close still what I am hearing from here the stumbling block is the venue. Carl is doing a lot of things a champion doesnt need to do with Quigg. Fighting in England is 1 thing Carl will always do against Quigg but fighting in Manchester in Quiggs back yard is one thing Carl would be reluctant to do. Hearn needs to offer huge money to Carl for that to happen seeing it is Carl who is defending his proper World title. So expect a little more delay in the fight being announced.

Well noted. Big gypsy following on BJS side. I like Billy but think he takes shortcuts with fitness. Lee might stop him late with body shots rather than a head shot. Billy will be hard to outbox if fit. Exciting fight this one.

Anyone catch GGG. Nearly broke the compubox machine for the amount of jabs he landed on DL's face. Brutal. Eyeing Cotto v Canelo or the winner of the above. Unfortunately he's probably arrived too late. Enjoy him whilst he's here.

Eubank Jr has signed up with Matchroom/Sky and.... Adam Booth. I'm not a fan and think he's dodged opponents. But the Adam Booth switch is interesting and he's lined up to fight Spike O'Sullivan the fight after next. Spike's dangerous as hell but BJS took care of him so it's a great defining fight and one I hope he gets dropped in especially if at the MEN on Lee-Saunders undercard. But boxing's laughing stocks or just unlike-able personalities have habits of coming back. DeGale the most recent example. One to keep an eye on if he stops the self-adulation and buckles down.

Sure Andy is a gypsy too. I think Andys power will always give him a chance of KOing most people in the division. Also he has the Adam Booth in his corner and I rate Adam Booth extremely highly. George Grooves since leaving Booth has gone down hill and was a mistake leaving Booth. Groves is looking at teaming up with Shane McGugian now.

As for GGG he is by far the best pound for pound fighter. Want to see him fighting Andre Ward soon.

While Eubank Jnr v Spike it will be a great fight. Spike has been fighting regularly for the first time in a long long time and his move to the US has done him wonders. It will be a great fight for both and the winner could well fight the winner of Lee v BJS. I seen Spike training up at Pascals gym in Dublin in the lead up to the Spikes training partner Luke Keelers fight on prizefighter and talk about a fighter being so focused Spike was that and more. I think they will build up the fight Spike wants it. They will bring up how Steve Collins beat Chris Eubank senior and I wouldnt be shocked to see Steve and Pascal in Spikes corner on the night of the fight. Huge fight and a world title elminator fight it could be.

I think "traveller" is the preferred term these days. Saunders is of Romani background whilst Lee is Irish traveller. I've rarely had the opportunity to meet any but they've usually got bright personalities. However, the general consensus is to not trust them and not go drinking with them! Most of my locals won't serve them.

Isn't Groves linked with Rob McCracken of all people? Froch's old trainer? He needs to reinvent himself quickly because he's gone from young upstart to three defeats in five.

Yeah Rob McCracken he is linked to too. I was just using the term above my post. I think Groves has a world title in him in all honesty. Think Andre Ward is thinking of moving up. Getting beaten in 3 world title fights doesnt mean he is finished. He was unlucky in the first fight with Froch not to have stopped Froch a different ref may have stepped in to stop that fight. Even his last fightwent to a SD so it was a close fight him being dropped in the first round lost him that fight more so. He could be like Johnny Nelson in my opinion and has the talent but needs to get the right man in his corner went from Booth to Fitzpatrick like going from driving a BMW to driving a Nissan Micra. Now hopefully he gets the right corner man in.

Also over here our amatur coach resigned there Billy Walsh put in some great work over the years with the High Preformance boxing team. Won so many Olympic , European and World medals over the last few years. Sad to see him go and move onto coach the USA team. Last worlds gone the team won 1 gold , 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. So fucked up Sports council and Walsh agreed a deal but the IABA wouldnt rubber stamp the deal so Walsh walked out sadly. A terrible move by the IABA in letting Walsh go.

So Fitzpatrick had him almost there but someone better would take him over the finish line? Groves is obviously very ambitious but, in my opinion, has shown himself up twice with the last two title attempts. And, in the first Froch bout, he had his gameplan wrong because he should have become more defensive and beaten him on points rather than going for the knock out. The stoppage was harsh but he got his tactics wrong. DeGale and Froch have both held belts. Groves has not. This speaks volumes.

IF he was with Booth in that first Froch fight he would of done what you said. He done that while beating DeGale in the past so its natural that with the same corner once ahead he would of been told to box more rather than go for the kill. Thats the thing with DeGale his next fight is against Bute who Froch dismantled but will be fighting in Canada I think were Bute fights out of. Its a risky fight when you take a close look so it wouldnt shock me if he was to be beaten.

Groves could do a lot worse than having a chat with Dave Coldwell and get Ryan Rhodes in for conditioning and also his boxing know how.
Dave Coldwell is with Bellew?? Good trainer but I think with Groves he needs to get this right and pick the best fighter available. There is many out there for me he needs a experienced head in his corner so someone like Freddie Roach would be a great fit for him get away from England go to the US and just go all out and box and spar the best out there. Virgil Hunter too would get the best out of him. From the UK I think someone like Joe Gallagher be good but the chances are slim as most of his fighters are his rivals. So it limits whats out there in the UK apart from what was already mentioned.

Can I just say I know nothing about boxing but I have just seen Tyson Fury interviewed on tv and he came over as one of the rudest, arrogant and big headed bell ends that it has been my pleasure to encounter and, given the number of cocks in other walks of life , that's saying something.

Frampton v Quigg is on in Feb 27. Frampton will win by KO or points just got too much too many plans that he can use. It will be a masterclass by the Jackal Frampton. I think if they get a good support card it will be huge. The MEN arena split 10'000 fans each Frampton will fill his half will Quigg I doubt it very much it be jammed packed with a lot of Irish.

Wellcome to boxing pfazz there are a lot of others just like him
And many who are not.

I hope fury gets knocked out in ten seconds. He has embarrassed this country in the build up. The thick rag prick.

Got a feeling Quigg is going to do it on the night even though i think Frampton is the more Gifted fighter, just think it could be a Hatton Tyzu type fight where he's that fired up he won't be denied, should be a cracker either way

Scott Quigg is no Ricky Hatton and Carl Frampton is no Koysta Tyzu. Frampton unlike Tyzu is active so the 2 of them going into the ring have been fighting regularly. I dont see Quigg winning the fight. Carl is brilliant on the back foot and will pick Scott off as he comes in also add into the fact Framptons power too. I think it will be a good fight while it lasts Frampton by a late KO or a majority decision. Frampton is so chilled about the fight being in Manchester and is brimming with confidence going into this fight he has a point to prove and will show it.

Also sad to see that Guillermo Rigondeaux the real champion of the WBA has been stripped of both of his WBO and WBA titles sadly. So the Quigg v Frampton fight can now be classed as a unification fight. Shame as none of them beat the real WBA champion Rigo and to loose both titles is a fucking disgrace. Rigondeaux is gone from Super Champion in the WBA to Champion in Recess. Saying that the winner of Quigg v Frampton will have to then defend the WBA title with Rigondeaux by MAY 1 or have a fight sorted out by then or Rigondeaux will be stripped completely. I got the chance to see Rigo live in action and he was the best fighter I seen live.

Also Rigos former manager Garry Hyde has come out and has slagged off the people who are advising Rigo now.
Hyde stated this. "Rigo has to take some of the blame for destroying his own career," he said. "He has refused many multi-million dollar opportunities I offered to him over the last couple of years. He needs to get rid of these reptiles and get fighting again because not only will he lose his world titles outside of the ring he will also be forgotten." What a shame that Rigo is now with a promotional group who dont put on shows or have a website and are difficult to deal with he could well end retiring. What a waste of talent that will be.
