A quick question for "singing" block(s)

I assume you mean in the lower tiers, because around where I am in 315, there's very few families, mostly 25-50 year old blokes, who may not initiate singing, but will always join in. Loudest song today was comfortably "have you ever won the premier league" when they started singing their where's your european cups.

yea the lower tiers, it might just have been where i was stood ? we could do with more of those people in the lower tiers aha

I disagree there, we could do with the singers up in level three, the noise generated would be far more significant because of the roof above being close, it'd also help the noise spread. I've really enjoyed it up there so far this season (was in 212 last few seasons, but its much better), there's lots of similar people to bounce off too, mostly everyone gets on, nobody moans if you swear or stand up for instance. Not today though, too many falling out sadly.

I'm afraid the only way a genuine match day atmosphere is ever going to be generated at the Etihad is the following.
Safe unreserved standing areas.
Make it affordable for the young to go with their mates rather than with their dads.

If you could drink in the stands like those rowdy rock and roll types it would reeeerly ruin my salmon barm and buttered peppered saged onioned potatoes with flash cooked chorizo and carrots. WHAT?? It's kick off? So what I'm eating. Muncmunchmunchmunchmunch

*few pints later

We won love

Brilliant darling! You smell a bit like, erm, cider?

You stink of onion and fish. I only had 4.1 each half and 2 at half time, took them to the seats. Too busy watching the game for more and there were no queues this season! Let's go home you smelly bitch.

Think corporate would go for it? Hate to say it bit it's a pipe dream. Drink what you want where you want if a band plays but when a football team plays at the football stadium, no alcohol in stands. Even stranger because of the fact when freshly poured those hot drinks are boiling! Imagine accidentally pouring that on the kid sat in front? How many degree burns? What's worse?

But that is my point: then is the time the team need our support. I was just as much in shock but still managed to use my vocal chords!! (I mean no offence GornikDaze)
I agree entirely and no offence taken :) there were a few attempts to get things going around 132 but to be honest with the performance on the pitch I don't think anyone could really be bothered. Sometimes the players need to prompt a crowd reaction by actually trying to play football and looking like they give a shit

As said in post about yobs in 111, I'm in 111 and the atmosphere has gone down in last two years or so, my mates and me sing but people will argue that sometimes there isn't much to sing about, it's a two way street.
A few years ago we had some really funny chants and songs, like the pigeon one and the 'youre not incredible' , but I genuinely think that the atmosphere has gone down since we stopped poznaning, it was our thing,
Bring back the poznan!

I think you could have had Gareth Malone there today with a 30,000 welsh male voice choir and it wouldn't have made a jot of difference to the shite that some of our so called world class players served up.

I think the crowd realised it was a pointless exercise and one misplaced pass after another with lifeless Pellegrini sat on his hands doing fuck all about it just ended up winding everyone up.

Given the performance and scoreline, I thought we gave it a decent go in 114/115 yesterday. Coupled with the new 3rd tier in the South Stand who Cleavers said were putting in a decent effort, plus 110/111 joining in as well, if that had been last season it would've been far worse atmosphere wise. All those sections gave it a go and the issue was other sections of the ground not joining in.

As has been stated though, the acoustics mean that the SS 3rd tier can't normally hear the singing section and vice versa.

Well they say players feed off the fans but in the same way fans feed off the players. Was a good atmosphere at kick-off I thought but tbh as soon as the OG went in, we never looked like getting anything from the game. It was just one step forward, another 2 back and I think most were in shock from such an abject performance. If you want passion from the stands, you need to see a bit of passion from the players first.

Was in 212 for the last 6 seasons +. 1st season down in 115, being a singer (50+ year old) my mind hasn't decided whether ok or not. Possibly another move is on the cards up to the 3rd tier next season? Definitely think the club have lost the plot NOT sticking away fans up in the gods like many other clubs have done! Imo

When a day like yesterday happens......hopefully not too often.....the singing blocks or even just some of them need to set off a song,or a couple of songs, just simple and repetitive. Something like ''Pellegrini's Blue and white army'' and keep it going. It becomes like a chant of defiance in the face of adversity and drowns out the celebrating away fans. It might drive a few people mad but it is better than submissive silence and capitulation. I don't want to hark on back to the old days but it happened a lot at Maine Road, mainly because in those days it was the only fun we had.

I think the banter/abuse between the away fans and us city fans close to them is what creates the atmosphere,

2 reasons for that, the biggest, we have a roof above which makes the noise stay in, but also the demographic up there is lots of people who are long term fans, and still have the humour.

Today it was just as shit as everywhere else, and was less than half full soon after their 4th goal.
Good point about 315 in the South Stand. It was my first time up there yesterday, and I was surprised at the amount of singing. I 100% agree that it is the demographic, as there did appear to be a lot more down to earth fans. You're also bang on that you can't hear what's going on underneath, but I was in 116 for a few games and there's plenty going on down there as well. I must say though, that the general banter up in 315 is the best I've experienced in a long time - some quality one liners coming from old timers behind me. As for the emptying, well it was shocking after the 4th goal - someone behind me got a little annoyed at some of those leaving and said so to a few!

Best move I've made watching City, is move up there, its a great view (except on days like yesterday, no view of that debacle could be considered good), and a great atmosphere (generally), and cheaper, but above all its like minded fans, that don't need 'banter' with the away fans to make some noise, though I do think it helps a bit.

"City are back", would have worked well yesterday, or "don't worry, everythings gonna be alright" that we used to sing.

We need our humour back.

For some reason we are obsessed as a set of fans with making up songs about players, not the club.

So when we need a rousing song to gee the team up they aren't really there to sing other than "come on City". I heard a murmur of "Ole ole o-bloody-e David Silva Ole" but it died a death within seconds because, as well as being an utterly shit chant anyway, it's not exactly an inspiring chant is it?

We did do the ''We never win at home and we never win away'' a few times where i was. I had this discussion on the bus back to town. When we were shit it was somehow easier and no i wouldn't want to go back there! What i mean was we went to games not expecting to win half the time and it was all about the day out, the banter and the singing. I remember the players literally stopping to look at the crowd a few times at Maine Road when in spite of getting hammered we were singing like we were winning the league. You could see they just couldn't comprehend it.

Humour was sadly lacking yesterday. I was as gutted and shocked as everyone else but some dark humour songs would have lightened the mood a bit.

We need to re-find this in any adversity, and lighten the mood, it kept us going for years, now we don't need it very often, but it would be welcome on the bad days. The difference between home and away these days is huge. I have to admit laughing a few times at our ineptitude yesterday, despite being angry with it too, by the time I'd walked back to Piccadilly for my train I was over it.

There was quite a bit of humour after the game most fans were shrugging it off as one of those days. We now need to dig up all the old self taking the piss songs and maybe some new ones for the next time. There is more anger going on the leaving early thread than i saw after the game lol!
