Is there any club in the premier with an older average age of full back than City. We need to add some younger legs.

I agree. Whilst I think Sagna has been excellent this season - although he was part of the malaise on Saturday, possibly due to too many games - I thought the signing was strange as it was a chance to bring some fresh legs into the team.

We also have an old engine room with fernandinho, navas, toure and silva all there or thereabouts.

When you add all this up, plus provide some back up for Aguero and Hart, it means we have to replace up to 10 players over a couple of years. We are in danger of needing a squad revolution rather than constant evolution.

left back position should have been upgraded couple of years ago already, strange that its been overlooked for so long imo.

Think the academy might produce one or two to bring thru in stages

It's ridiculous that Sagna has played near enough every game when we had Maffeo as back up whilst Zab was injured.

When Sagna joined the inside story was that he'd be here for probably 2 years, at which point either Ash Smith Brown or Pablo Maffeo would be ready to break through and become one of the right backs.

Now I don't know what has happened to ASB, his stock seems to have fallen since then (a few injuries I think, he's still young). Maffeo on the other hand.. well, it's really disappointing that he wasn't given a debut while Zab was out. He could have been an option to give Sagna a rest for even 20/30 minutes of a game, but now we are no closer to knowing if he is ready than we were at the start of the season.

Right back (and fullback in general) has been a problem area injury-wise this season, so for me it's totally wrong that Maffeo hasnt been given a go.

To be honest with the amount we've spent we really should have assembled a galactico team by now.

I certainly think we need more energy there, whilst they're not great, look at the difference Moreno and Clyne made. Having energetic fullbacks enable you to press higher too.

I agree mate. I also just think time's up for Zab, Kola, Clichy. Sagna's the only one i'd think about keeping. Certainly though if it was up to me i'd be buying 4 new full backs next summer and one John Stones. :)

As much as I love Zaba, I can't help but think he's peaked. I admit I've never been a fan of Kolarov, the only thing helping Clichy is he's HG.

I'm certain Txiki will address it this summer.

We've spent under £10million in the right back position in 7 years.

I take your point in general but this is an odd thread to make that point

Zabs will be fine in midfield for another 2 years. AK will be okay for 2 year's but we need an outstanding left back and right back, if Pep does come he will want more pace from these areas.

I would never ever want Zabaleta in midfield. It would be disastrous.

Tbh it would have improved us on Saturday, to have him sat in front of the back 4.

But otherwise I agree in general. It looks like Zaba is close to finished.

This thread is spot on. One of the things we are lacking in the way we are trying to play is pace & athleticism in those positions as well as ability, which makes the decision to play so open against a fitter team, all the more ridiculous.

Kolarov is the only attacking threat from that position at present but he is like a world war II tank. If he can get the turret into position quick enough then you have a problem but nine times out of ten someone's popped a grenade in there before he has chance, or he fires off target before getting into position & when the oppo run away, he can't turn round and follow.

Younger. fitter fullbacks would help us press in all areas of the pitch & improve our attacking threat too, but as we don't have that, we should make sure we have a solid back 4, behind all these attackers. We don't do that.

I still think Sagna and Zabs have a few good years left in them. We needed a new LB about 3 years ago though.
