Post Match Thread: City vs Southampton

I thought we played well first half and deserved our lead. Not so good second and the 3rd goal was much needed as from half time to that goal we were poor. Southampton had a few too many chances for my liking. Overall a win is the main thing today though.

Delighted and relieved with the points.
Good selection and much more impetus. Excellent first 30 but error strewn and in cohesive thereafter.
Well done Willy, excellent safe, a real test that I'm not sure we'd have come through if they'd equalised.
Decent looking breaks and opportunities ending with the inability to find a man or passing behind a player.
Confidence and anxiety the problems today.
Not the manager nor motivation.

Good post. I was very pleased with the first half. Southampton are a good team. Things to work on as always but well done City. Lots of effort and running which for me creates space & pass options.Toure played a superb ball down the wing to De Bruyne around 35 minutes..as did Otamendi out of defence to Sterling later who could've scored. These are the things that City could do more of & has the fans on their feet and applauding in appreciation.

The fact he was offside wasn't great. He should be able to stay onside in that type of situation.
Agreed.

He was looking across the line so should have kept his run in check, shame really as it was a great move.

I'm happy, poor performance and we won 3-1, comfortably by the end, that's good enough for me, we do have issues to attend to though, Yaya is fast becoming a passenger too often lately. Pogba would seem the ideal replacement, but that's a topic for elsewhere.

That bit of play from Otamendi with th pass was superb. Pity
sterling couldn't do anything with it.

think we need to cut the guys some slack today, saints were unbeaten away and it was on the back of a big c/l match ,pleased with the 3 points ,p s who the bright spark who asked the club to stop playing blue moon at kick off come on own up

Good solid performance today in the end of the back of a poor week. Big 3 points was needed today and we did the job!

Special mentions to KDB, Sterling, both fullbacks and Delph. Really chuffed for Delph, deserved his start and made the most of it.

I think Yaya looked knackered today, could do with a rest in the week to be fair.

Hope Sergio's injury isn't serious!

Well a better day after the week we have had. Good to be back on top. It's not a strong league this year we have to kick on now.

That geeing up the crowd before the game was odd. Has it really come to having to rely on this to get the atmosphere going?

Ah victory I have missed you. Top of the league aswell, I'm happy.
De Bruyne was very good again, deserved motm. Sprinted about 40 yards for his goal and sweetly set up the other two.
Delph first start first goal. Worked hard and played well, very glad we signed him. Kolarov's goal was sublime from the build up to the finish.
Sterling, Fernandinho, Caballero and Touré also stood out for me. The ref was all over the place, one of his bizzare pull-backs leading to their goal.
Amazing to see Silva back and hopefully Sergio will be fine for the next game.

It was a wonderful piece of play. I like when defenders look up and play to a team mate instead of the 'hoof & ave it' style of others. Sterling did the hard bit by speeding into a great position but overthought it and the moment went. He can work on this bit & by watching his past goals, see that he can finish most chances. I'd advise him to trust in his left foot...like he did in Seville.
