With the Rags dropping in to the Europa and also the possibility of one or both of Chavski and Le Arse dropping down too.

How this would affect the Premier Leagues number of CL spots in the coming years.

Is it now extremely important for those that drop down to the Europa League to take it seriously?

At this stage they may have 5 teams in the next round potentially 2 in the cl 3 in the Europa where as we have 6 with possibly 3 in each competition as long as we match them round by round were pretty safe ,early days but I think we'll be alright I think our teams in the Europa will take it more seriously as there's a CL place up for grabs

Matching them this season would be safe for keeping 4 places in the 17/18 CL but then the 11/12 season's points drop out of the cycle and that means Italy gain 4 ranking points on England so there's a strong chance that we could drop to 3 places for the 18/19 CL.

IMO too much emphasis on EL points.

Take last year where Italy competely outscored us. Juventus got to the final of the CL and scored highly which is fair enough. However, both Napoli and Fiorentina scored higher than the 3 English teams who got to the last 16 of the CL. To put that into perspective Fiorentina didn't qualify at all for the CL and Napoli got knocked out the CL in the last qualifying round before the group stages and then went on their EL run.

I don't think so. Maybe in the qualifiers.
You get 4 points for getting into the last 16 of the CL so the rags (and possibly Arsenal) will miss out on those.
Teams get 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw regardless of whether it's in the CL or EL.
Then you get an extra point for qualifying for the last 16 and any subsequent round in the CL but in the EL you only get that extra point once you get to the quarter final.

EL and CL points for match results are identical - 2 for a win, 1 for a draw.
CL gets a bonus of 5 for reaching the R16, because EL has an extra round (and thus could gain an extra 4 pts).
Both CL and EL have 1 bonus t for reaching the QF, SF and Final (per round)

Lancsblue is right that it's not immediate - the change is at least one season in arrears. If Italy overtakes England at the end of 2015-16, it will not make a difference in 2016-17. I think it would affect 2017-18 though (happy to be corrected)

Spot on mate 3.893 points from 11/12 season and we are only 3.304 points ahead of them at present.

Also could get worse as we stand to lose out to them by 2.012 pts from 12/13 season and 2.619 pts from 13/14 season in the future.

City had therefore better not take their eye off the ball on the domestic front as a top three finish is imperative in future seasons.

Stolen from someone with more time than me from The Guardian comments of our match:

67.439 Italy
50.582 Portugal
50.249 France

Contribution to the coefficient by English teams so far this season:

17.0 ManCity
12.0 ManUtd
11.0 Chelsea
8.0 Arsenal
7.0 Liverpool

But we'll bump up the English points when we win the CL

The position is distorted today, as we are only half way through the CL round, and the EL ties have yet to take place.

The thing to remember is that the country co-eff is an average, so we are third on points scored this year (68), but on average we are (68/8= 8.5) the same as Italy(51/6 = 8.5). We are being dragged down by the poor performance of West Ham and Southampton.

Would only affect arse anyway, take their fourth place trophy away

Not worried single bit if England goes down to three teams in CL ... we aren't the ones fighting over that fourth spot in the league anymore ... would be funny seeing Arsenal Liverpool and Rags fighting over one spot year on year ... time for these (supposedly) big old clubs to die a slow painful death ... arrogant bastards all of them ... happy days!
