Are we improving?

No we are not improving,in fact the complete opposite. We are spiraling into terminal decline and will continue on that trajectory until such time as someone has the balls to pull the trigger on the lame duck in charge. Pep if he comes will have to savage the present playing staff and bring in at least 6 new faces such is the decline. Youth has been ignored or banished to the outbacks of Europe. The last 12 months have been gash for the most part. Watching city at the moment is not very enjoyable at all, entertainment has become a distant memory and defeats both home and away have become the norm rather than the exception. but then the OP knew this anyway!

Should the question be "Are we improving at the rate the board expect".

As fans, we want jam today, but this is a long term project which might not fully come to fruition for another year or two.

We have brought in stellar talent with KDB and Sterling but are we, as a team, improving or not?

Sterling is not a talent! Got the attributes but not putting them all together! A team in decline for me vinny, yaya our backbone finished silva and aguero not as good as they use to be zabba past it clueless manager I'd say we are definitely NOT improving!

Crikey - Terminal Decline

On the pitch we are regressing at a rate of knots. We have lost all our attacking flair and
the defensive side is at it's worst since the takeover.

Crikey - Terminal Decline

It's not that bad. We have had injuries and some players not back to their best. We have 3 new players in KDB, Sterling and Otamendi that will need time to get fully up to speed. We showed at the start of the season that with everyone up and running, we are still a very good team.

So what has happened between the start of the season and now. I'm not having Kompany being out as an excuse.
We have enough quality in that side, to be playing way better than we are at the moment.
Everybody looks like they've just met up for a kick about.

I don't think we're improving, but there is still time, although the biggest changes will probably come during the summer with a new manager.

In my opinion we still miss Tevez (and to a lesser extent, Bellamy). We need someone up front and a midfielder with their attitude, and a change in mindset throughout the team to work harder. No matter how skilful you are, you have to earn the right to play. Lesser teams found us out ages ago that all they need to do is press and we bottle it, or can't be arsed and wait for a piece of magic from one of Yaya, Silva or Kun to bail us out. This magic is now happening less and less due to age, form and injuries.

Losing Komps for so much of the season is a huge blow too. And we really need another top class striker to help Kun and let us rest him more/give him more recovery time, or play as a front two and scare the crap out of workmanlike defences.

Our player quality hasn't really matched our ambition. We have the money, we should be buying the likes of Pogba, Lewandowski, Müller, Bale, Neymar, Alaba, Stones. Not all of them, obviously, but one or two of them, and going for that level of player, not Fernando, Bony, Mangala, Navas level.

We've lost our fear factor through too many slow, half arsed performances.

There are several factors and depending on your view, all or some may be valid. For example:

New players bedding in
Injuries
Natural fall off of ability
Dodgy decisions
Poor Coaching
Squad not as deep as we think
Prospect of a new manager on the horizon

I'm sure others could add.

no we haven't improved....

defensively were were far superior in the the first title winning season.

attacking wise we were better under MP but now this has completed gone as well in recent weeks and we ar just well below par in all areas

MP has failed to bring out any improvement in any individuals besides Joe Hart (not surprising as he has had to improve with are defensive slackness),,,,the other player has regressed besides silva who you could argue has just about to managed to maintain his level of performance along with ferna

id also question whether a number of the signing MP has made have made us better....

caballero is worse than Pants

bony is worse than Dzeko

Navas is average

Delph - just don't know where he fits in at present

KDB and sterling will be great buys and sanga has proved his worth as well

Mangala - not great at present but I'm prepared to give him time as i can see potential there to be lot better

The squad will be judged at the end of the season. For the way we have played were not prolific as we were in years gone by its natural as the squad gets older. We need to sort out the spine sooner rather than later. I think with the players at the club we are many 4 players short of having a team that will do well both in the league and Europe. I look at this squad now and think we can win a trophy or 2 this season as we have the squad who has done it regularly. I look at the rivals for the league we will hopefully kick on after the Watford win and our form away from home be better. With players returning its there for the taking even if we do look like were in decline a bit.

Refreshing the squad for Pep will be natural a new manager and his players coming in. It will be of better benefit we have got Sterling and KDB in on the wings they will be key for us for years to come. He gets in the right players central of midfield and 2 new fullbacks and we will be sorted for seasons to come.

A combination of Injuries and trying to bed new players in. I also think we've tried to fit too many attacking players in as they are our most individually talented players. Together this has upset the overall balance of the team.

This answer is the correct assessment of our form. SPOT ON .

Defensively LB & RB we haven't addressed and age is catching those boys up fast

After that:

Willy worse than Pants (possibly)
Bony worse than Edin. Let Bony have the same length of time Edin had before making that call
Navas > Average
Delph is a good utility player, home grown and cheap
Mangala - your willing to give time - fair enough
Kev - great start, seems to be falling off the pace now
Sterling, not great yet but has the ability to become that

I've said before but when we got silva aguero and Yaya teams looked at us and thought bloody hell there serious.
Ok we got KDB but apart from him we haven't signed a top player since

We cannot turn back the clock but various players have left - e.g. Tevez - and have not been replaced.

IF ONLY, are too big words. - If only , we could have back the young versions of - Tevez , Barry , Bellamy , De Jong , a fit Kompany , a younger Zabba and a Manager
who is willing to drop out of form players. - obviously we do not have these kind of replacements. - and our tactics are wrong - rely all the time on catching players offside.

It's no good just signing big name players, so a few fans can brag to their mates.
We need to get the ones we having bloody working for a living.

What we have now is a team where age is catching up really fast and it's starting to show.

Demechelis, Clichy, Sagna, Toure, Kolraov, Zabaleta and Fernandinho are all the wrong side of 30 (Toure is 33 in May!). Kompany and Silva aren't far behind.

We've also let Negredo, Dzeko, Jovetic and Milner go recently.

That's pretty much the players who won the 2 titles.

We look like a 'one last pint' team.

Big rebuild needed.

Busted flush the way we are currently playing....
We can replace 2 or 3 players every season but we can't do that and play with a high line defence. Forcing a stack of square pegs into round holes is suicide. With the players we have we should be playing a more defensive minded counter attacking game.
If Pellers can't see that he should be sacked tomorrow.
