Unfortunately we are not yet a big club.

Not in terms of cups or titles, not yet anyway, but we are the most talked about club in the best league in the world. We pay the best wages and we will have the best facilities. In the very near future we will have the best players. For agents to come out with stuff like this, is both insulting and short sighted.
Unfortunately, cups and titles (and a bit of money!!) are the only way these things are measured nowadays. Look at Chelsea; this guy wouldn't be saying the same thing about them now, but they're a much smaller club than we are.

Whilst I agree it's insulting and that these agents should find a more tactful way of trying to get more money out of a potential deal, we really need to start winning things (or at least get into the Champions League) before they stop spouting shit like this.

One last point, all the agents who've trotted this line out have been foreigners speaking in foreign languages and I wouldn't put it past tabloid shite like SSN and The Sun to have had a play around with the translation. It's no coincidence that the broadsheets are reporting it as "a more important club", which is instantly more palatable than the tabloid version. The guy's probably said something in his own language like "If he leaves Barcelona it won't be for Manchester City as he wants to play in the Champions League" and the British tabloids have put their own spin on it in the only way they know how.

That's a bloody good point to be honest, whenever quotes are said in a foreign languages the press suddenly can take a great deal of 'artistic liberties' - because they can claim that it was simply mis-translated rather than deliberately mis-reported. Especially since translation is subjective to a certain extent anyway.

I seem to remember Yaya himself commenting on City in the summer saying that he didn't think Kolo would sign for us.

Agents are there to stir up publicity and interest in their players. I take what he said with a pinch of salt, if Kolo suggests to Hughes that Yaya is interested then a deal will be done. Yaya is an incredible player, a beast in defence and midfield, yes he's another DM but he's also one of the best in the world.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE WORDS.

Which is pathetic. If that's the case we're just being us as a pawn
No flies on you

Why are we getting carried away with Yaya?
We have better defensive midfielders already.
The defence needs to get an understanding between them and as soon as Tevez finds his shooting boots - problems solved!
(If you call the current situation a problem?)

its true though we are not a BIG club YET. dont see whats wrong with what he has said tbh

Have to agree.

I find the words 'big club' more of a mentality factor than anything else. If we don't believe, we won't achieve.

Non?

And which big club will he be signing for, given how desperate he is to leave Barca?

a club which can guarntee(sp?) chumps league , a team which is top 4 most likely and sorry but that isnt us.

dunno why everybody is buzzing about yaya anyways.

thank f**k for that, the last thing we need is another defensive midfielder!

no offence mate, if de jong, kompany or barry were in the barca midfield, they would look just as good!

Hindsight's a wonderful thing.

On topic though, have we ever dealt with such a tosser for an agent? I know some have been difficult and obviously greedy (goes with the job) but this guy is an outright prick who goes beyond what is necessary to represent his client.

Also, that second quote just goes to show that the "if such and such played for/ managed Barcelona, they'd look just as good" is not exactly new.
