Champions league revamp? (Merged)

If this happens I would never attend or watch another Champions League game. A closed competition would be horrific.

Little more relevant than a pre-season invitation-only showcase except for one thing..the cash. In theory, it would put an end to domestic FFP rules because it removes the last vestiges of a level playing field. Of course, it would also diminish the competitive nature of the domestic league because, using this season as an example, 2 of the top four would have to miss out to make room for the rags and Liverpool. That, in turn, would diminish the value of the domestic tv rights. I'm not even sure that would be in the best interests of the rags and Liverpool commercially. It wouldn't have the same effect on other leagues.

It's such a bad idea on so many levels I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it adopted.

Thing is, upon reflection I'm not sure what the criteria could be in practical terms.

Previous European Cup wins? Does that mean Forest and Villa will get a place?

Club turnover? With the new PL TV deal, Bournemouth will have a bigger turnover than Ajax.

Crowd size? Newcastle and Sunderland get bigger crowds than AC Milan.

Any other criteria would be too subjective and completely open to legal challenge. Can't see it functioning tbh.
Nonsense it's a brilliant idea, bin dippers, Rags & the like can start their European Istree & Tradition League sponsored by Sly Sports, wouldn't bother me if we never played either of these entitled twunts ever again.

In all seriousness as opposed to my prior comments GDM, sniffs of being like the European breakaway league pre Champions League set up, an empty threat they (UEFA) bent over backwards to accommodate - clearly many of the old powers of the 90s are getting miffed. I can see some abortion of a competition being set up during some future Xmas break, probably played in Qatar or Bangkok, with sponsorship/incentives of IPL proportions, heaven forbid we get invited, however it's likely we would be.

Reading articles like this has me questioning what's the whole point in me putting in effort to support?

City could afford one gigantic green screen around the stadium and have us all replaced by CGI super fans who constantly cheer.

Summed up, Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool threatening a break away unless they get a guaranteed spot.

Call their bluffs and fuck them off.

This will happen,we have all seen it before with the G14. UEFA won't stand in their way if they push this enough just like every other time. It's not if but when.

Lovely people, they have a children's museum here named after them following a $5m donation to keep it going.
Can't comment on that type of thing. But it's a far better use of X weeks of rug head wages- so extracting 100's of millions from United is definitely a plus.

I preferred when only the Champion's of each country could play.
As it should be.

I'd do something radical and make both competitions a free knock out draw. We might get some more winners that wiould challenge the G14 then. Would never happen though.

And you just know that if this plan comes anywhere close to be implemented, you'll hear...well the fans of a certain club don't want to attend their home matches and those that do just want to boo, so it would be better to include clubs with a more deserving fan base.

It will never happen , can you imagine if Lester and spurs qualify this year and being told to make the most of it cos it could be the last time

If this does come to fruition there should be a qualifying criteria, 'Only those teams that can manage two shots (on target) per game can get in the new money cup.

Ok the Dippers would get in but another load of shite might have a problem !
