It's evident to me that we look so much better as a team without Yaya these days, unfortunately his legs are gone now and he simply can't do what we want him to, I know we only beat Villa today but even without him on the pitch on Wednesday night, we just looked so much more dangerous going forward and much better all round. As has been mentioned previously, I think there is still a role for him but only as a substitute coming on with around 30 minutes to go. Hopefully after the way we've performed last couple of games, Pellegrini sees that and sticks to us having a more solid base in midfield as it definitely allows our forwards to express themselves more.

Can we not just enjoy the day and a great performance without having a Yaya is finished thread?

Dont take it personally OP but it gets boring. The man has been incredible for us. A real match winner on his own so many times and before the season is out, will no doubt contribute yet again to success we have.

I agree his game time needs managing and he is no 90 mins player any more but finished he is not either.

I was surprised we hadn't had this topic earlier than now - well done.

Typical City fans, we must have some of the shittest fans from what I've seen down the years. FA cup, away from home, win 4-0, 19 year old bags a hat trick, big game next weekend...we slag off a club great.

Anyway, carry on

Hear hear. It's only 4 weeks ago when he was bailing us out of the shit at Watford which ultimately turned a defeat into a win.

The yaya bashing this year has been ridiculous. Silva didn't play either or de Bruyne or kun.

I'm not Yaya bashing or anything of the sort, all I said was that I enjoyed seeing us set up differently along with a bit more legs in midfield where I think we've been easy to slice through previously.

Sevilla away is our best performance so far this season and Yaya was on the pitch so he's not done yet. He'll have his moments in the run in and we'll need him too.

Yaya will come good in the big games whdn needed. But, it cant be denied that at tims he slows down our play. He should start less, even if just to keep him fresh.

I think we all know he ain't the same player he was a few years back. We know he can't play every games but this guy is still an integral part of the team.

Villa are crap so I'm more then confident that our weakend side could beat this team but a change of opposition you will need your stronger players with experience and ya ya fits this category.

Your view on him is as valid as those defending him, me included but no reason why this opinion couldn't be put in the post match thread.

Starting a thread just looks like player bashing for the sake of it when we have just won 4-0.

Fair play but then you would just get slagged off for being negative in a post match thread that we'd just won, can't win either way.

As I say, I honestly wasn't being negative, just saying I liked the different set up.

It's a bit more diluted on there but agree you probably can't win. I like seeing it too but I think he has been written off too soon. I am sure there will be a key moment in the run in and it will be down to him much as it was at Watford a few weeks ago. He is a key player for us and Pellegrini still trusts him.

He's still got a part to play this season so being able to rest him today and win comfortably is just an all round positive.

I still think he's got at least a couple of big moments left in him before the end of the season, but will be really annoyed if he starts on Tuesday after our last two games.

We're moving further and further away from him as each game progresses.

Hopefully he can help us win trophies this season and then leave with the legendary status he has earned and deserves.

I agree, just dont want to see him being started game after game where he ends up fucked like he was first match v Everton. Was good to be able to rest Kun n Dave today too.

The hope is to show Manuel that we can play without him, we've struggled to do that at various times but today was definitely a step in the right direction.

i just enjoy the fact we have plenty of options, yes including yaya and bony

It's not so much that Yaya wasn't playing, but the fact that we used the Sevilla away system again. I love it when we set up like that. Two strong defensive midfielders releasing Fernandinho to get forward, and offering more protection to our defence. Pace and penetration out wide giving us an excellent counter attacking option. Yaya can definitely play in that system as he did in Sevilla but it also gives us the opportunity to rest and rotate which could be key if we keep doing well in the cup competitions.
