Our inability to set up properly for big games

Most people on here deride Mark Hughes and Van Gaal..... However having watched Stoke and the rags go into away games against Liverpool and Chelsea with inferior players and achieve results with a with a set up and a system why is it we are not capable of doing the same.
It's nothing new.....we very rarely achieve results away from home against the better teams (the rags don't count)
Why is this......I blame the manager, but are the the players culpable as well...or a combination.
We really should be looking down on the rest of the table with points to spare...but obviously now a place in the top four is in the balance.
My own opinion is that Pellegrini belongs to a different era....and his set up brings out the worst in players....are Mangala and Ottamendin really as poor as their performances have shown....or is it due to the way we line up.......has anyone noticed also that this season we very rarely finish with the formation we started with....De Bruyne, Merlin and Sterling in particular end up playing in two or even three positions ( particularly De Bruyne ) which tells you something about the though ( or lack of it) that goes into our preparation.

This would be the Mark Hughes who crashed out of two cup competitions in the space of 4 days; seen his side stuffed 3-0 in the last 3 PL games and is currently lying 11th with a -7 GD?

Just checking.

United have got 4 points from Cheslea and Liverpool away, we will probably get 1

The manager is clearly at fault, the players look like they don't fancy it and teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham etc seem to play us like its a cup final.

The reason for 'cup final' like atmosphere is because Ciry give these sides a sniff by usually letting one(at least) daft goal in. We are then struggling to break teams down who have something to hold on to

No imagine Barcelona, Bayern etc turning up at these grounds - they'd be 2 nil up in the first 30mins and that would be that

We make hard work of already difficult fixtures, that's why we don't get results

We have no direction on the pitch. It's like we do the square root of fk all in training and are given no instructions before matches. It's amateurish,he is worse than Hughes.

I mean we can play compare the manager if you like but a) he is gone in June so why bother and b) if we are going to bother you pick Mark fucking Hughes?

0 points from them 2 games! Would love to know what he's backroom staff are advising him before this big games

It not just the big games, it's all games.
The problem is we don't set our game plan for the team we are playing.
There was a Delph interview a while back, when asked about the preparations for the game, his reply was something like "we don't worry about the other team, we just concentrate on ourselves".
That right there is the problem.

He is an old fashioned manager. Stick with your trusted players a la MDM, Kolarov, Toure and only give the kids minimal time in the pitch. Big changes are on the way and I for one am looking forward to Pep giving some of the kids a chance. MP still has time to mend his ways but he won't, he will stick with those players that are repeatedly letting the team down. Even the likes of David Silva should be pulled out occasionally if they are not performing but MP just won't do it.

I can't remember the last victory where we played very well and won convincingly.

I appreciate we have had many injuries to key players this season, however there seems a lack of leadership on the pitch, positional play leaves a lot to be desired and the tempo/rhythm of the side is to slow.

Aston Villa away in the cup should be the way we need to play.

I just wish we would have some dynamism and pace. I dont like this 'trying to thread it through the eye of a needle' that we end up doing all the time

The question itself is meant to point a finger. Fine, there is an unpalatable anti- Pellars tinge to bluemoon these days. But examine the facts and is easy to show its misplaced.

He said it again before the Leicester game. High line against Jamie Vardy and no pressure on the ball in midfield just makes me wonder why we bother with training sessions

I'd like to see how Guardiola would do with the players Pellegrini had at his disposal yesterday.

yes, we'd all do things a bit differently, but the overwhelming reason for the poor performances is down to the missing players.

Sagna at centre half,Clichy at left back would have offered much needed pace and not playing Delph as a fucking left winger sould have been a start dont ya think?

We couldn't afford to lose the height against a long ball side.

Yep that's him.........some people really are stupid! Someone said put Kidd in charge for the rest of the season on another thread.....I mean come on, I'm not Pelle's biggest fan but people who suggest the above need to give their head a wobble.
