Nasri under Pep

Can't see it personally. I just don't think he has the attitude to do what he's told and be disciplined when we don't have the ball. Top quality attacking midfield players aren't so rare that you have to put up with one who may down tools at any moment. De Bruyne is surely the more obvious attacking midfielder in our team? Or Silva.

He will thrive. Pep will keep faith with anyone who has the ability to carry out his instructions and who has the passion to play. One thing Nasri certainly possesses is footballing intelligence and passion.

He is so underrated by our fans it's untrue.

Someone on here summed it up best the other day when he said something like:

"During the best of times, Nasri always seemed to be on the pitch"

It's no coincidence.

I'd say that has more to do with Kompany, Yaya, Silva and Aguero also being on the pitch at the same time.

Nasri played where Modric plays for Madrid (deep midfield) once for us and did a really good job. Can't remember who it was against, maybe Everton or Spurs at home.

I can see Guardiola playing him or Silva in the same place.
It was a cup match at home and he was outstanding. After the match he went on to reveal that Wenger had outlined him for a deep play-maker role at Arsenal and that he'd played there before in France. He's an outstanding talent and my hope is that Pep can get the most out of him.

They say you never know what you've got until it's gone, we've really missed Nasri this season. I miss watching players running around like a demented dog after a ball when Nasri, Yaya, Silva and Aguero play their slick one-touch possession and passing game. Tempo becomes less of an issue if the opposition can't get the ball of you in the first place.

Can't see him staying tbh. Too inconsistent and can't see him working his socks off week after week, maybe for couple of months before reverting to type.

I think it was against Everton where he made 6 tackles in a motm performance. He has the capability to do it, but his mentality and work ethic needs to match his ego in order to get to that level. If he stays, hopefully Pep can guide to that level.

We don't yet know what he will be like when he comes back.

If we assume he makes a full recovery then I've no doubt he could play in a Pep team, in more than one role. But some players will have to leave, in order to make way for new signings. So all that is in the balance.

I recon players such as DeBruyne, Silva & Nasri will all be much less of a liability without the ball ,when organised.

Pep likes midfielders with brilliant technique who look forwards and make difficult passes look easy, players who never lose the ball. Nasri is all of those things.

People thought Robben was finished at Bayern when Pep got there. He doesn't press enough, doesn't work hard enough. The thing is, he's a supremely gifted footballer, Pep had faith in him and helped to improve the defensive side of his game.

I expect the same thing with Nasri. He's a very gifted footballer technically, can play in a variety of positions, plays attacking minded passes and never gives the ball away. If anything, I'd say he's our MOST suitable Pep style player.

Clearly he'll have to improve his work rate and defensive discipline, but if Robben can, there's absolutely no reason why Nasri can't.

People are becoming a bit obsessed with this idea that all Pep's players have to press. People are forgetting that it's more important that Pep's players have to be supremely gifted technical footballers to be able to play for him.

You can teach a technical player to work hard, but it's much harder to teach a hard working player to be technical.

I think Nasri will be an important player for us next season. In possession, he's the closest thing we'll find to an Iniesta. Out of possession, there's plenty of room for improvement, and I expect to see a lot of it under Pep!

Actually, what they said was that Robben was injury prone - which he was. Robben was never the misift that Nasri is or has been

No they didn't. They said he was the wrong type of personality for Pep and wouldn't work hard enough without the ball or pass.

Out of all our injured players he's the one i wished was playing yesterday. He has a great football brain. I think Pep will keep him.

Correct. I've pointed this out to "FCBarca" on the Pep thread. If Pep can turn Robben in to a hard working team player, there's no reason he can't do the same with Nasri.

I totally agree with those saying that Nasri will thrive under Pep.

I also thought it interesting how upbeat he has been this season even after getting injured. My view is that he knew Pep was coming and that he knew he was in his plans.

The big plus point with Nasri this summer for Pep is that he won't be travelling to the Euros unlike Sterling, Silva and De Bruyne so I am certain he will keep hold of him and want to work with him while the others are still away or having their extended holiday post Euros. Nasri in theory will be the most in tune player with Pep's style by the time the new season starts.

He should also make him fitter than ever and have been drilled for weeks on defending without the ball.

This also applies to Navas, Clichy, Kolarov, Bony, Yaya & Fernando.

Basically anyone who is being proposed as player Pep will want to get rid of is going to be at the club when he arrives so he will get time to assess them and decide whether to sell them or convert them while everyone else is at the Euro's or Copa America.

Robben already worked hard defensively with Heynckes. He did not improve in this aspect with Pep nor does he pass more than he did before.

Prior to Pep's arrival there were rumours about atleast everyone. He did not want Robben, Müller, Götze, Ribery, Gomez, Mandzukic, Gustavo...

It's easy to forget what a player brings to the team when he's been out for a long time.

Robben has always been good, & worked well for Bayern, but he was a different player when Pep's team arrived at our place, than on any other occasion I've ever seen him.

Not a chance, bud.

Nasri has three years left on best part of £160k a week.

He's going nowhere. No club would be prepared to pay the fee involved or the terms, at this stage of his career.

More importantly, Nasri isn't stupid. He's not going to agitate for a move with the chance to work under the best there is, and the chance to add more medals.

If I were a betting man, Nasri will see out the remainder of his career with us, simply because he will accept a squad role and we won't ever let him run his deal down.

He'll be here into his 30s.

Key points there; not least that Nasri is not stupid. An intelligent player who takes care of the ball, two things that Pep prizes highly.

Nasri’s contract will be highly bonus driven so I don’t think it is as simple as he is guaranteed £160k a week. I don’t claim to be an ITK but it was widely reported city were renewing contracts at £80k a week + massive bonuses around the time when Nasri signed up (all linked to FFP stuff at the time).

I think if Pep comes in he will want to bring in various new players and for everyone that he brings in one will have to go. Nasri is already out of the CL squad and the last player we did that to left in the next window. If we want to shift players on it will be as simple as ‘thanks for what you have done but you will not be in the PL or CL squad next year’. It is then down to the player to sit on their contract and collect the money or look to agree a deal to leave, I would imagine 9 out of 10 would not hang around when facing the humiliation of being dropped from the 1st team squad. We might have to let them walk on a free or even pay some of them off but that is the way of modern football.
