City EDS and Pep

I think Pep is going to have his hands full integrating new players into the side and formulating new tactics.

I believe he will only then look more closely at promoting players from the EDS or youth teams.

I think we should not expect miracles from Pep. It's going to take time for his ideas to permutate through the club.

I was impressed with Humphries little cameo at right back against the rags U 21's the other night. Also I do believe Tosin has everything in his locker to make it. He has a physical presence, pace and is comfortable with the ball. He has his moments when he is too casual or drops concentration, but he just turned 18 around October, so that is understandable. The other English player I like is Kean Bryan. I think he can be a very good defensive midfielder in time.

I think Kean Bryan would have stopped the 2nd Spurs goal yesterday.

I think you arte right re Tosin. Could become everything we would want in a centre back, but it will be his head which decides it.

I know Pep doesn't mind trying kids out as he's shown at Barca and Bayern, but should we be more concerned about it?

According to daily fail the U16s are stalling on contracts. Not sure how much faith to put in it, but surely would have to be given some consideration...

I got slaughtered on here in the thread re Utd's academy, by a whole bunch of people, for predicting this would happen. But I don't think it will be down to who we sign, I think it will be down to whether they think Pep will act like Pellegrini, who imo is a disaster for our academy.

It is obvious it WILL happen if kids don't get at least a sniff of our first team. Others are going to try & poach them. Utd will make a song & dance about revamping their academy & try to pinch some. They have been making a big thing about being the club who plays kids in the team & people should know how they work. Spurs etc will also be after our kids.

Luckily we have got Pep. Hopefully he will talk it round & we will only lose one or two.

Another season of Pellegrini could have set us back years. Thank fuck he is going.

He definitely sticks out as a bit ungainly and I've seen reference to him making stupid mistakes cost in us goals in more than one @twosips match report.

But I've also seen games when He's been great. Against the rags last week he read and broke up a lot of counterattacks.

I've seen Tosin make a few mistakes this season, yet I still think he's a great prospect. There's just something about him that suggests that if it clicks he could be a truly excellent defender. It's concentration. When we have our backs to the wall, like we did at Chelsea earlier on in the season, he can be magnificent. It's in the ones where we're strolling that he needs to maintain composure. Tbh his mistakes come from trying to dribble out usually too. When that's reigned in he'll be fine.

You're right too, and I know the Daily Mail article is based in truth unfortunately as well. Some of the u16s aren't seemingly signing contracts and they're stalling. I know some idiots will go 'well fuck em then, they're not good enough for City' or 'if they're good enough and believe in themselves they'll do it so they must be mentally weak'.....that is of course utter fucking nonsense. It's about creating an environment that at least leads these youngsters to feel that they will one day get a chance. The perception is that at the moment we're not good at it, and that, in my humble opinion, is down to Pellegrini - no one else...Just Pellegrini entirely. The club though are acutely aware of the potential 'problem' we have on our hands here and they will look to sort it. There is no point in having some of the most outrageously talented young players in the country if they fuck off at 16, and we do have some insanely good prospects. We don't just want to be a school for these kids to get a great education without reaping the benefits ourselves.

I think its just about salvageable thankfully, but like Nev i'm hugely glad MP is fucking off as he's in real danger of ruining all the good work put in by others.

The fact it's been announced may have rescued the situation in a lot of cases, rater than them being worried about spending as the Mail suggests.

Personally if I was a parent of a City kid, I'd have no problem walking out on Pellegrini, but knowing Pep is arriving, I would seriously want to be around for that.

While Pellegrini hasnt helped put any young minds at rest regarding their future ambitions at our club, the appointment of Davies can hardly be described as one of genius,i mean,in reality, which of our kids is going to be motivated by knowing he will be their last stop prior to the first team? Or have i got it wrong/ being far too harsh?

What is it with people saying the manger is picking the wrong EDS lads One its surely not just his choice and its not just about ability but position and he is an expert. He has also picked the best players according to most but others seem to think he is doing it based on nationality or price tag which is odd because. Using the former he would pick English using the later he would pick foreign surely or non at all and just the senior players. Now people have decided they wont even name who he should or should not pick and wont give a justification. I have never seen another forum where people take a daily mail Devanti Cole type conspiracy against certain players. The main problem seems to be around Barker and perhaps Roberts not getting games. Now Roberts I get but he is on loan now getting games better for his development. From what many have said the like of Celina are miles better than Barker not that I watch the EDS so no bias or problem there.

I’m surprised you’re so clear cut in thinking toward Pellers. He has done a bit more this year than he did in the last 2 IMO.I don’t have any stats but if you assume Nacho and Roberts are EDS lads then this must be one of the best seasons for playing kids in the last 10 years (multiple cup games helps). And of those that we have released over his 3 years at the club none look like massive losses but that said some are having decent careers (Gudietti played against Barcelona last night).
However I do agree that there have been many missed opportunities. The number of times we have been comfortably leading games with kids on the bench and they have not come on is disappointing.

Five of the eleven U16s offered scholarships have not signed as they fear there is no room for progression at City. espn].

hopefully when pep comes in he can change that

This. He did not integrate any of the academy players at Bayern either. Not even Can or Höjbjerg. Yes, he uses them in training sessions etc. - but the only young players he integrated were Bernat and now Kimmich and Coman who already played for Valencia or Red Bull Leipzig. But they do not have clear starting spots either as the established players are still a lot better.

That's because your academy isn't very good at the moment.

We like our youth development players in Germany and we have our fair share - Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Muller, Badstuber - homegrown players who fans adore. Pep will always look for in-house youngsters in order to realise his philosophy of the game, but our problem is at the moment we don't have six youth team players who are good enough to make the move up. In fact we only have 2 right now. We need to improve what we are doing so those players emerge.

Another Pep Confidential quote -

"However, so far this generation of youth players is showing no signs of being exceptional. Hermann Gerland, who took over the clubs youth teams in 1990 and has a 6th sense for spotting talent, is not optimistic about the short term potential"

According to the despicable Daily Fail, it would seem like no-one will be promoted from the academy and that a batch of our U16s are stalling on signing contracts because the arrival of Pep will mean a huge spending spree and that the kids will get pushed into obscurity. There would have been some credibility in the story if names had been mentioned, but not surprisingly there were none.

I reckon he'll pick a hood part of the squad from the EDS. Most of the players that are now underperforming must know this. The choice as been roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, or just take the money and fuck it. The latter fits with the results we've seen lately.

Pep will give them more of a chance certainly, Pellers has been fucking shit for the kids while he's been around, it's taken a huge injury crisis to get them on the bench - imagine how much better our situation would be right now if the likes of Celina, Barker et al had a bit more time under their belt and not being thrown at the deep end like sacrifices.

The u16 news doesn't surprise me, the step up at our club is harder than most and combine to that we're not giving them opportunities - seeing Spurs giving kids a go won't help.

From what I've read, the story appears to be unfortunately accurate. Maybe a good thing it's been highlighted though, as it may force our hand to get things right.

seeing Spurs giving kids a go won't help
this must be a huge part of it. Right now both the Arse and Spuds are showing a lot of faith in young 19-22 y.o. players. The positives youth bring are energy, fight and optimism, things those above us in the table show plenty of.

Surely the club will push hard to get the best of them signed up? They'll be a natural progression as some EDS players will move on, U18s move up etc.

How can it be just down to pellegrini when we have a Director of Football sitting above him?
