Our captain improves the team so much by allowing those in front to concentrate on their jobs instead of second guessing what's happening at the back.
The calm he brings to the team can't be understated. He wasn't the most impressive player on the pitch football wise but he gets the nod from me for everything else.

Difficult.

Otamendi for the dominance established in the first 20 minutes.
Sterling for his harassment.
Silva for his ability to do anything in no space. He even crossed once with his right foot!
Fernandinho for being a non-stop duracell bunny, up and down the wing and helping defend.
Fernando for doing the DM job properly.
Hart for making the 2 saves coming his way and clearing everything else well. No blame for the goal.

Clichy probably was the weakest link as he had a scruffy second half, but then again he was up against the best Kiev player.

Silva for me.

A tough one, there were many outstanding performances. It was like watching a completely different set of guys to what we've seen over the last month. Hope they hang around for a while. My vote goes for Sterling, a constant threat, worked hard and has been on the receiving end of some stick recently so he a ballsy effort from him and of course perfectly timed for a couple of big games coming up. Nice one Raheem, keep it up!

Sterling and Fernandinho were both superb last night, Raheem for his constant threat down the left and Ferny for always making himself available anywhere on the pitch.

But for me MoM goes to Ferny for being such a revelation as a right sided midfielder (we already know he's a great central midfielder).

Top post, well said. I agree it's Raheem for me and for most others by the look of the scoreboard.

I gave it to Sterling since I have always been rather critical of him, but last night he excelled.

Actually rather than give the MOTM to an individual I would prefer to nominate the team, because it really was a team effort
and a superb one at that.

Fernando for me, until Sterling laid the ball for Silvar's goal i thought Sterling and Silva were pretty average.

Interestingly enough, his ball wasn't even going to Silva, it came more off his heel and was going to the penalty spot but took a deflection. However I thought he was great, just in behind Fernandinho for MOTM.

Serg of love

David McDonnell is in love. The Daily Mirror‘s man in Kiev witnessed Sergio Aguero helping Manchester City to a 3-1 first leg win in their Champions League last-16 tie, and he was completely besotted. Weren’t we all?

‘No wonder Manchester City want to tie Sergio Aguero down to a fresh contract extension,’ McDonnell begins.

‘He may not be talked about in the same reverential tones as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Luis Suarez but, on this evidence, Aguero is up there with them.

‘The Argentine may be under contract until 2019 but City’s hierarchy know Europe’s top clubs will again be lining up to woo him, which is why they want to send out a message with a new deal.’

McDonnell describes the striker, in a piece headlined ‘AGUERO’S GLOWING’, as a ‘goal machine’ and a ‘big player’. One of the Mirror’s five learned lessons was that ‘prolific Aguero holds key to City’s success’, and that the 27-year-old is ‘hitting top form at the perfect time’. His game is dubbed a ‘super show’ on the back page.

Aguero’s match rating in the Daily Mirror? Six out of ten. No City player scored lower. Harsh.

Think tonight just proves how much of a team game football is. When we're not at the races,
some players find it harder than others. When we turn up, they all want to be a part of it.
Anyway, i voted for Fernandihno, though it could easily have been Sterling.
