Michael Oliver

Standard Oliver performance; no bottle.

Certainly beats Clatternburg or Dean who want the spotlight on them. We deserved that pen but, apart from that, he got everything else right. He didn't give in to any of Liverpool's divee to get a penalty that the likes of Clatternburg would have been ecstatic to give. I expect a level of crapness from referees towards us and compared to the rest of them, he's alright.

On the whole I thought he was ok, he didn't fall for a lot of their histrionics but should have booked Coutinho for diving and how Lucas avoided a booking for the studs up lunge at Aguero's ankle is anybody's guess, I suppose the fact he wasn't so one sided for the opposition in his decision making we are grateful.

Can someone make a montage of the penalties we've been denied, and the soft ones given against us? There must be close to 10 since Boxing day.

Denied us a blatant penalty and what would have been a red card, allowed the dippers to kick us most of the game and has a history of doing so regarding us. Remember the blatant penalties at home to the rags he didn't give and bog brush heads elbow on Zabba at the swamp? Dodgy if you ask me.

Just seen the penalty incident on TV.

It looked nailed on in real time from 511 but it's a disgraceful (none) decision by Oliver.

This sort of shit is happening nearly every game, no douby at the other end it would have been given.

I can't help but feel that there is something blatantly sinister again going on this season so many 'top' referees can't keep getting so many decisions wrong in our games.

It's easy to get em wrong in our games mate. Media hardly raises an eyebrow so refs aren't under much pressure to get it right. Contrast that to rags/arse/dippers. You could also include Leicester in that lot this season and Spurs are the future of England now so they'll get a few favourable calls.

Can't understand the people saying Oliver had a good performance apart from the penalty. The penalty decision was the crux of it all. Like saying Mignolet had a good game apart from the howler.

Should have got his cards out earlier for both teams although especially for Lucas and I think it was Moreno and Sturridge who were diving at every opportunity. How he didn't give the pen is beyond me as he had a clear view of the foul. IMO had he have given the penalty he would have had to show red and he bottled it. Imagine the same situation on Wednesday with Clichy taking out Sturridge in front of the kop and a pen not being given...

Yea. Cup finals demand a little leeway with yellow cards. The penalty was a dreadful mistake though.
Do they? I've never understood that. Surely a bookable offence is just a bookable offence. What we don't want to see in a cup final is the best players booted out of the game because every knows you get a free shot because it's a big game.

For the penalty, I'd quite like to know what the linesman was looking at too.

Lucas' first half foul was a bad one, so maybe that's what got Toure his pass for the Lallana one (although I think Lallana just got there faster than him, rather than there being any malice).

No one was booted out of the game and yes, the millions watching don't want the climax of a competition decided by cards. You have to make allowances for the hyped up atmosphere and have a quiet word now and then.

Yellow cards are given for stuff that wouldn't have registered as a foul even 20 years ago anyway.

No one was sent off either. You start letting refs changing the rules of the game to match how they feel about the game circumstances and they'll make mistakes.

A bookable offence is a bookable offence in a cup final or a first round match.

How that Lucas "tackle" didn't warrant even a yellow only he knows.

Probably wasn't the right player or minute on his slip.
More than any player in the league Lucas seems to get away with three or four bad tackles before he gets a card. The modern day Scholes.

Not really related (or maybe it is) Henderson is the modern day Rooney man marking the ref telling him what decisions to make.
