Martin Lipton: City Not Big Enough For The CL

I'll leave you to it lads and lasses. Busy day today and the beer starts in 45 minutes time.

Come onnnnnnn!!!

4-1 City.

4 automatic qualifying spots and I presume Lipton thinks they should go to Liverpool and Arsenal. Liverpool who haven't won a league title in 26 years. Arsenal who haven't won a league title in 12.

How can you have an elite cream of the crop competition yet put in teams like that? The only 3 guaranteed places should go to City, Chelsea and United who actually have the ambition and capability to dominate on a global scale.

Pep's reign can't start soon enough and I won't forget the 7 years of torment from the press when we win it all. They will try to share in our glory but they can fuck off.

Someone said I was a rag because I was being too pro City.

I'm still trying to figure that out.

Top man !! Having a couple of beers before the game mate as I`ll be in in Summerbees as its not too far for me to walk to my seat.Don`t get too pissed.

Morning Oakie a lovely day for beating the rags.

Driving so just a quick visit to the Grove and hope a convenient bus takes me two stops to the ground on my pass. Otherwise a steady walk.

Just negotiating with She That Must Be Obeyed for meal plus my drink and her driving back. Her curiosity for the reopened Duke of Portland should win for me.

It's not about recent success, though, is it (ironically considering the way rags and dippers go on about post-92 istree) it's about success 10-30 years ago, because that is what creates the race of middle-aged armchair supporters who buy TV packages. Our success is far too recent for them and it hasn't translated into money. 12 year old wearing a city shirt to football practice is not where the cash comes from for sky and BT.

At the end of the day it doesn't come down to the TV ratings for games, though. It comes down to how many subscribers TV channels would get to watch their teams in certain competitions, because that is the money which is going to get pumped into this competition, potentially at something silly like 2:1 (money earned:money spent on TV rights). I doubt many people would buy BT Sport just to see the Manchester derby twice a year. Those TV companies will carry out marketing surveys to see which four clubs bring in the most business, and to be quite honest we will probably not be in the top four.

Besides, the German article (though the translation made it uncertain) suggests that the Super League idea was drifting back to a alongside-domestic-leagues style so the TV companies still get Manchester derbies in the PL.

I doubt they would base the whole idea purely on each club's potential subscribers.

If they did, we might not be in the top 4 in this country, at this time, (debatable) but I'd bet we'd be more than top 4 in most other countries & potentially bring in a lot more revenue than most, including the 'top' clubs here, in the coming years.

The only way any 'superleague' without City would make sense, is if the whole thing was designed specifically to avoid City.

Absolutely. At least I know now I'm accused of being a person as opposed to an act. I thought 'being pidge' was an act, like 'to pidge'. I've learned what a clarkie is so I thought that was another one to get to grips with.
Unless a Pidge is a kind of Clarkie and you just don't know you've been had yet. Pidge.

Yes, the notion that broadcasting and publishing organisations might seek to maximise the advertising revenues on which they are clearly dependent, by portraying different teams in different ways in accordance with their global levels of support, is so far fetched it's preposterous.......erm, hang on a mo.....
